Class Officer Essay

Lincoln High School is an amazing school, especially compared to the school I used to go to. However all schools have some things that students think should be improved or possibly taken away. I think that a few things that could be improved are students who feel invisible and bullying. There are many students who feel like they don’t exist in other people’s eyes. I think that to some people that makes them an easy target for rumors and other things like that. If I were to approach this situation and see someone who felt like this I would try to help them see that there are people who see them and care. I think that if we were to get enough people together to show these kids that we care and are there to help if they need it we can make a big difference. That’s how I would choose to improve that situation. I have seen firsthand what kind of things people will do to bully other people. Most people put up a blind eye when they see someone getting bullied or hear a rumor about someone. If enough people stopped and tried to help a person in need when they see bullying, then we could stop it or at least slow it down. Bullying isn’t something a lot of people think about before they do it, most people just do it because of their lives at home. If enough people knew how many people get hurt everyday then maybe we can change that outcome. Lincoln High School is an amazing school and there are a lot of things about Lincoln that don’t need changing. However all schools improve something and I think that the things that most people over look that are important are bullying and people who feel invisible. This is how I plan to help change that.

Starting an after school program for bullying victims as well as students who feel that bullying is ok to do. They can come and talk about the problems they are encountering in school, and outside of school. Also, it is very vital to include the parents, teachers and staff in the experiences of the program so they can come and talk with their children/students as well as other children going through the same thing. Having never been a victim of bullying, but living in a small community now as well as being from a small community prior there was a few kids who have committed suicide from being bullied. It’s hard for people in small communities as well as larger communities to understand what would push a kid to the point where they feel that taking their own lives is the right answer to the problem. Now those kids have no voice in this matter and are not able to share their story a program like this would be able to help kids understand the effects of bullying as well as the impact it has on family, friends and the community. Having read a few articles, one of which was A Mother’s Plea: Stop The Bullying by Shoya Bowman, this article talks about a mom whose daughter was being bullied at school and her mom was able to catch the small warning signs that her daughter was giving whether she knew it or not. In the article she states, “Sometimes, we as parents miss the signs that are right under our noses as we attempt to make a living and better our situations for our families” (Bowman, 2013). Being able to educate parents on what signs to look for, as well as, to educate kids on what signs to look for if their friends are being bullied or are bullying other kids so they can help them get through it or be there as a support system for one another. With this program the vision is to get the parents to know what signs to look for if their…

This school was named after a hero. A man who made mistakes but tried to fix them. He was one of the first men in this city after the civil war to try and unite the black and whites together. But do you think he would be happy having the school he was named after divided because of the reminders of the war? Though he was a rebel, that does not mean we have to stay the rebels. It is past the time for a change. We need to stay up to date in our teaching methods as well as our social understanding for one another. We should not forget our past, but we do not need to live in it daily or have a reminder of it daily. Our goal as a school is to teach the students. But if something is impacting their learning ability and we do not do anything about…

There has been a progression of bullying happening as many may have noticed, in order to be able to get the bullying to stop or to even calm down someone needs to step up and have a talk, or needs to discipline the bullies. Walking down hallways at school, people say mean words, they do not think of other people's feelings as they say the cruel words coming out of their mouths. Mostly, the reasons being why children, and young adults are usually bullying someone may be because they were not disciplined enough as a child, their parents may have not been around to do so, or they may have a rough life at home. The reasoning trying to be stated is the bullying comes from selfish people. A person can tell if somebody else is selfish or not because selfish people tend to block out what others are feeling around them, how their days went, and/or what is going on in their lives. Selfish people do not care about anyone else except for themselves. A selfish person could see somebody with nothing to their name and still not help them because they do not want to do anything for anybody else. Everyone may have a friend or a family member who they may think is a selfish person, as many people may know a person that is selfish do not be afraid to stand up to them and knock them down and tell them what they are doing is wrong. Selfish people are everywhere in todayś society and they do not care if…

Furthermore, students have been very patient with the teachers and faculty of South Gwinnett High School, but with such a long history of mistreatment, headache and constant nagging from the staff it is only right that the rest of the world finds out what has been happening. It has rained so long, it seems as though it has rained for 40 days and nights. They give us repeated pointless referrals; they give us way too much work with no time to finish. Staff are constantly questioning students in the hallways and telling us what to wear. They tell us when we can or cannot use the restroom; they tell us that we only have six minutes to get to each class, which is not enough time. Our lockers are too small and our lunches are inedible. They refuse to let us go off campus for lunch, and they refuse to let us self-checkout anymore. They punish us if we do not make it to class on time by going to the tardy room, and they punish…

Every day, somewhere in the world, someone is getting bullied and it’s your choice whether or not to do something about it. Most people choose to stay out of harm’s way if they’re not the one getting bullied and few people choose to stand up for themselves if they are the one bullied. I believe that helping or asking for help is the only way to solve a bullying problem. The reason why people choose not to say anything is because they’re scared of what might happen. The “consequence” of telling on someone is what most people think about first, so why put yourself in a place where you don’t need to be right? If it’s not your problem then it’s not a problem to you at all? These thoughts are the reasons why bullying is never stopped.…

Bullying has become an epidemic, and it needs to come to an end. If people will stand up for each other and protect each other, I believe bullying would cease to be effective. It preys on those who do not have the confidence to defend themselves. Often times, the bully hurts others as a way of protecting himself. He believes that if he attacks others, then they will not know he himself is hurting, or has been hurt in the past. It becomes a coping mechanism for him. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that bullying should not be responded to with more violence. They need to be shown love, but firm love. A love that says, “I love you enough to not let you continue down this path. Let me show you another way.” Then you are not only l protecting those that the bully hurts, but also you are protecting the bully himself in the long run.…

At 1:00 p.m. I entered into Evoline C. West Elementary school on Thursday, July 12 2012 for an interview with Mrs. Yolanda Lawrence. As I entered the classroom, I was greeted by Mrs. Lawrence, the head teacher in this classroom. Mrs. Lawrence has no assistant at this present because of it being in the summer. After I entered into the classroom, the entire class welcomed me with “hello Ms. Flournoy”. It made my day to see all of those smiley faces greeting me. This was a 2nd grade classroom which consisted of 17 students of which 8 were girls and 9 were boys. This interview and observation was a total of 2 hours long. During the observation of Mrs. Lawrence classroom, I noticed how the students flocked under Mrs. Lawrence as she started reading one their favorite books before they did their afternoon lesson. For some reason I got an excitement about doing this interview.…

Raised in a military family, I consider myself an organized, dedicated, adventurous and motivated person. My father has been a great influence in my life and an honorable example of a military man who serves the people of our nation with pride. At an early age I learned about sacrifices, “This We Will Defend,” honor, respect and devotion to duty. I truly believe in what the Army stands for hence why it would be a great privilege to join the few and elite members of the prestigious Officer’s. There are many reasons I would like to become one of the officers. I want to serve alongside the Army men and women who’s work and valor have helped keep this nation safe. I want to help keep our nation a safe place and be able to give back to society. I want to continue in my fathers footsteps and make my family proud. Four years in the ROTC will prepare me in making sound decisions by providing me with the tools needed for the everyday challenges and adversities met with on a daily basis by an Army Officer. As a cadet I expect to work hard to become better educated, physically, emotionally, and mentally fit as well as developing into a more inspiring team player and leader of character. One of my goals have been to be eligible to take honor and advance placement classes in preparation for university. I have achieved my goal by sacrificing, staying focused, asking for help and being persistent in my studies. Moreover, I have been taking honors and advance classes since my freshmen year. Other goals I have set and met include improving my score for my track meets and reading 150 books for my grade every year. My goals have helped me hone my work ethics and without diligence I would not have been able to accomplish my goals.…

Imagine that you are a thirteen year crying in your bed because you are dreading facing another day at school because you are being bullied. Nowadays, this is more common than ever before. For far too many teens this is a daily reality. According to the ASPCC (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) there are over 160,000 students in America who stay home from school every day because they are fearful of the mental and physical abuse from their classmates (1). The ASPCC defines bullying as a direct attack on a child’s status, sense of belonging and core identity and more times than not leads to low self-esteem (2). 1 out of 4 children are bullied every day (3). Bullying in any shape, form or fashion must be stopped so that our children can have a fighting chance.…
