For example, at one point, Dr. Davenport even mentioned to Antwone that he could delay his next appointment if he wants to continue talking. This small action has a huge impact on a person, especially Antwone. Once the 3 sessions were finished and Antwone was able to move on without being forced to see a psychiatrist. Dr. Davenport let Antwone know that if he wanted to, he could continue to see him out of his own free will. This would mean that the originally action-oriented counselor became an insight oriented one. By trying to go further rather than finishing the initial problem, a shift between the two occurred. Judging from the look Antwone gave the doctor, and by his feelings about the sessions initially, I assumed he would just move on, get into another fight, and maybe be forced to go again, or even just be discharged. I was surprised when he decided to go back. After he went back to see Dr. Davenport, the relationship grew even stronger, to the point that Antwone felt the urge to visit Dr. Davenport at his home, and even have Thanksgiving Dinner with him and his family. The relationship between both client and counselor…
Working with my two practice clients and having their honest feedback as been vital for me improving my skills as a therapist; and there appears to be a common thread amongst all written and said from them – that I make them feel safe and they have pure and unadulterated 1:1 nurture time. They have feedback they feel they can trust…
Please identify all persons that you know to have personal knowledge of the facts relating to the incident in question. When mentioning these sources, also indicate who were eye witnesses and give a summary of what the eye witness may have…
I was also able to explain that confidentiality was also a strength because if the client didn’t know that the confidentiality during the sessions then they might not be open to telling me the counsellor about what their issue is and so then I might take the information…
In the beginning of the session the clinician established trust through her facial and body expressions. The clinician smiled, laughed at the client’s humorous remarks, and nodded whenever he spoke to show she was attentively listening. I also believe that the helper demonstrated trust through her ability to express empathy for the client. During the session the clinician seemed genuinely interested and focused on everything that the client said. A safe environment was established through the therapist speaking calmly and in a pleasant manner to the client.…
Another question that I found interesting was how would a therapist deal with stress? She stated that she uses something called the four A's, she changes the situation: Avoid the stressor ,Alter the stressor and change the reaction: Adapt to the stressor and Accept the stressor. She said that she has learned how to not take on the patients problems and when she leaves the office, leave it behind.…
At the beginning the client will feel the power side of the relationship is with the counsellor, they will know the counsellor is professionally trained, also the counsellor will be on familiar territory if the session is at the counsellors choice of venue, but, by explaining to the client the therapeutic process they will quickly realise the counsellor is committed to shifting the power to the client thus assisting with the therapeutic alliance. By being totally congruent from the beginning will display to the client there are no hidden agendas, the counsellor is totally transparent, non-judgemental, the counsellor has empathy towards the client and understands them.…
5. The therapist experiences an empathic understanding of the clients’ internal frame of reference and endeavours to communicate this experience to the client.…
As her patients are already in a vulnerable situation her understanding and caring attitude are what will aid in her client’s journey to recovery. People seeking treatment do not want a greedy, impatient, irritable person as their therapist they need someone who is going to be uplifting. Alex has experienced many opportunities in her life that have required to be compassionate. Her role as a captain on the cheerleading team required her to be understanding when working with teammates as being a college athlete can be stressful at times, her capacity to response in a positive manner is a great assist to…
I got to interview the patient who has bipolar disorder with mania symptoms. At first, I was very nervous because she was loud and hyperactive. Later, I found that because of her diagnosis her mood changes frequently. Even though, she was loud, she was cooperative to talk. She understands her diagnosis and she knows that she need to stay longer in the hospital to get better. Most importantly, what I learned today was the communication skill is very important to talk with the patient. In future, I will continue to have proper therapeutic communication skills with my patient. Overall, it was productive day for me.…
According to Bertolino and O’Hanlon (Cited in Corey, 2013), the therapist listen to the client interpretation of their experiences and asked question to understand…
End of life decisions can cause people to make choices they would not normally choose. People begin to reflect on their lives, remembering the good and the bad. I believe one wish when facing death that most people have is they do not want to suffer. They also do not want their family to watch them suffer. I think that physician assisted suicide may be a consideration in some extreme cases where pain cannot be controlled with medications or when the patient is comatose and will never regain consciousness. Many people believe that physician assisted suicide is unethical because it is viewed as murder. Those who view physician assisted suicide as unethical also feel that no one, even a physician has the right to assist anyone with suicide.…
I believe that because of taking the time and promoting Mrs X’s independence helped to keep her calm and relaxed. Also by answering what Mrs X was saying to me helped, even though it was hard to understand what Mrs X was talking about, it would have made her feel happy that she has someone to talk to. I think that if Mrs X was ignored or rushed I would have made her feel confused and agitated, so I am glad I was able to be calm and patient with her.…
I facilitate groups at my internship Andover Subacute and Rehab Center. The individuals in the groups are ex-alcoholics and drug abusers. Around 6-10 people usually attend the groups, we discuss different topics that have to do with their recovery and the process they took. Due to HIPAA, I was not able to record the clients, so I will be using my process recordings. A majority of the group members are of old age, so listening is a very good quality that I have. It is hard for me to understand many of the group members at the time because of their low voices. I have to listen very carefully to be able to understand what they are saying.…
There are no doubts that there were feelings of nervousness and anxiousness during the session as I was new to the counseling session. I have no idea how to start and how the session is going or to end. In my head, I kept thinking if I were the client, how am I feeling.…
