My goals for the semester are that I will successfully perform 87 percent of chest examinations unassisted, I will observe less then 15 percent of all observed examinations this semester and that I will repeat 15 percent or less of supine abdomen examinations; this will include the supine abdomen for the flat and erect series. I successfully performed 43.66 percent out of the goal of 87 percent. …show more content…
Therefore, I did not successfully meet that goal. My second goal I had no repeats out of the 15 percent or less of supine abdomen including flat and erect. Lastly, I observed 11.37 percent of 15 percent of all observed examinations and reached my last goal set for the semester.
My strengths for the semester are that I receive constructive criticism well. I chose this as one of my strengths for I find that technologist want the best for me. I know that when they are correcting me it’s for good reasons. They may see mistakes that I may not notice. I find it promotes communication and excellence in clinic and helps with personal growth. By hearing about areas that require improvement, I have the time to change and become a better student technologist. Secondly, I find that I adapt well to change. I chose this as my second strength in regards I feel having a high level of flexibility is characterized by confidence, tolerance, empathy, and respect for others. It also allows you to understand how different types of people would like to be treated. Being flexible shows that you are a team player, and goes with the flow. Radiology is forever changing regarding patients and exams performed. Working in healthcare I find employers want workers who can adapt to an ever-changing workplace and don't panic when things don't go according to plan. My strengths can always improve with the more knowledge I obtain.
My weaknesses I find are being critical of myself and seconding guessing my knowledge in certain situations. Being critical of myself is something I have always struggled with since I was a kid. Being the youngest of my siblings I always felt I had to be the best or do things better to compare to them. Being in the clinical setting I find I have tendencies to revert to being self-critical. Before we started clinical we are taught to be cautious of patient considerations and aware that we are dosing patients with radiation. When in clinic I want to make, sure everything is correct for I don’t want to expose patients to unnecessary radiation. I feel I have improved on not second guessing myself and being positive in my ability to perform exams with the knowledge and feedback obtained. Being critical of myself will always being a working progress throughout this journey. The feedback from technologists help me improve and to remember not to make the little mistakes.
This semester we had to obtain 5 competencies in clinic, I was designated to Lane Regional Medical Center ER 1 for four weeks, ER II for two weeks and my last rotation is ER portables.
As of April 11, 2017, I have a total of 17 competences. I went in with the goal of obtaining 7 total competencies and at this point have succeeded in obtaining that goal. Being at Lane is one of the best places to be for clinical. The technologists are willing to help you in any way possible. They encourage you and give positive feedback to help build your confidence. When receiving constructive criticism, the technologists explain what they see that you as a student can improve on. They give feedback politely and to help you understand for the future. Another thing that makes Lane a great sight is that the entire radiology department communicates efficiently, treats one another with respect, and work as a team to get the job done. The only negative thing I could say about rotating from Lane is getting out of clinic at 11 at night. Once you get past the first week you form a schedule to manage assignments, tests, and class. What I found the most appealing about Lane was that all technologists are crossed trained in mammography, CT, Nuclear Medicine, and Magnetic resonance. When They are slow they all walk over to x-ray to see if they can help in
anyway.
In conclusion, I have successfully reached two of my three goals for the semester being at Lane. I have thoroughly enjoyed being at that facility and working with all team members. The technologists in diagnostic and other modalities play a significant role in making the department run smoothly. Every technologist is so helpful, willing to teach and to help you improve so in the future you’re able to become the best technologist possible. It has shown me how to work effectively as a team member and how to have a great form of communication with fellow coworkers.
