Values and Beliefs: The main values and beliefs of a Community College Student Government Association is to advocate and to initiate change in the best interest of all students on the campus. A belief of the Student Government is creating a campus atmosphere that students feel they have a voice and that they come first. This belief helps lead college students to success and achievement.
Distinctive Possessions, Clothing and Grooming: Most Student Government members dress and groom professionally. Their distinctive clothing is college colored polos that have school and Student Government logos. They also usually have a name tag that indicates their name with their position within …show more content…
their student government. Since the SGA members are also students, their professional dress wear usually consist of dresses, slacks, button ups, polos, skirts, and college campus t-shirts. Most SGA members who are not working in the office are dressed like most students.
Behaviors, Rituals and, Traditions: Most students in a Student Government behave very professional because their positions consist of them constantly working why they are on the college campus.
This behavior is also due to the constant interacting with students and faculty about campus issues, as well as the constant meetings within the Student Government as well as the School Government. A major ritual that Community College Student Government’s practice is team bonding retreats and learning sessions such as; activity making, trust excises, etc. They also go on Legislative affairs for the campus one of the biggest ways to advocate for Community College Students. For example, our Student Government attends The Student Senate for California Community Colleges allows our SGA to vote and lobby for initiatives on behalf of 2.2 million students. An additional ritual is swearing in new members. Activities that the SGA hosts is the college campus created activities. Language that is used in the Student Government is professional and Robert Rules which helps dictate how meetings are
held.
Misunderstandings: Nevertheless, Misunderstandings of a Community College SGA are that they do not have the best interest of students in mind, that they do not care about the student opinion or the positions that they are in, and that they are not working in their best efforts to initiate change on the college campus.
Appreciated: What is to be appreciated about this Co-Culture is that it is the key way to help student’s voices be heard and initiate change in the student’s best interests. Lastly, the Student Government plays a major role in changes that help better the campus and the students.
