Coed Healthy Active Living Education Summary
Grade 11 Coed Healthy Active Living Education Summative

Title: Rugby Handball
For our Fitness Blast, our group has decided to design a game call Rugby Handball which is basically described by the title. It is a mix of both the elements that come from the sports of rugby and handball. The structure of the game is closely related to handball in which the objective of the game is to move the ball from one end to the other and score in the net without entering the crease. By incorporating rugby, it makes the game more complex and fun because now it adds elements that may seem strange but at the same time fun. The ball can now only be passed backwards like in the game of rugby, except for shooting which can go forwards into the net. For safety reasons, since we are using a rugby ball, there will be no goalie meaning more strategy for both teams facing each other will have to be incorporated.

Rugby union is based on the 'right to contest possession'. A team is not required to surrender possession when the ball carrier is tackled, in contrast to American football, where a team must surrender their possession when a player is tackled and no downs remain. Rugby union players must win possession in open play, unless the team in possession makes an infringement, scores, or the ball leaves the field of play.…

The strong person is defined as one who is able to exert great bodily or muscular power. Another component of muscular fitness that is crucial is muscular endurance, which is the ability to perform a specific muscular action for a prolonged period of time. For example, performing 50 squats with a weight of 50 kilograms on the shoulders requires both attributes, 150 squats without weight requires more muscular endurance while the ability to perform a single squat with a weight of 200 kilograms depends on muscular strength. Different tests are used for assessment of these different components of musculoskeletal fitness. To determine the strongest person in the group, multiple factors needs to be taken into account, including age, height, gender,…

This program is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to make the best of the athlete’s physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. “This definition of fitness encompasses all types of fitness: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance and Accuracy” (Sibley, 2012, p. 42). Most if not all are needed in the game of football. Being bigger, faster, stronger is the goal! If a player can accomplish gains in those areas they will be a more dominant athlete in football.…

    Nature vs. Nurture

To begin with, nature contributes a large part of my athleticism. Surely environmental aspects affect this characteristic, but biological influences have a key role in athletic ability. For the most part, the contour of the body is a major genetic component associated with athleticism. A person’s height, body mass, and overall shape of the body play an important role in athletic ability. For example, someone who is short and is born from a smaller size family will have a difficult time playing basketball or any other type of physical activity demanding height. After several studies on the amount of scoring of professional basketball players under six foot, there is evidence that their bodies are a major hinder resulting in low points per game average compared to taller players. There is a limit on how much a person can improve their body from its original form. Anyone can increase and improve strength, speed, and stamina, but one can’t alter the genetic makeup of their body. While gathering information on sprinters, it’s difficult to determine a specific genetic makeup that adds an advantage, because there is drastic variation of sizes among most sprinters. Some people are fortunate to be born will athletic bodies that perform…

But the solution that I found to solve this problem is the M.V.P.. The M.V.P. is a mobile virtual player that acts as a football player. Its has the capability to move around the field, juke, and simulate a real tackle without the cautions of a head injury. Same as said by Buddy Teevens,Dartmouth football coach, “M.V.P. can simulate a real football players size, weight, and agility by replacing an in game tackling experience”(2015).This robot can reduce the huge amount of head on head contact during practice. It does this by not allowing players to tackle each other, but to tackle the moving robot. According to Head Coach, Buddy Teevens, “80% injury reduction by non contact practice”(2015). The M.V.P. is easily controlled by a wireless remote control that can be operated by the coach, assistant coach, or another player. They will be linked together via Bluetooth. Robot can also be set on an autonomous route which is a pre-programmed and given a route that can be run over and over again. The M.V.P. is simply moved by a ball mechanism controlled by omni-wheels.
