Chapter One
Problem
In the game of football there are a lot of things that can lead to a team’s success but in this case we want to focus on the individual athletes. When looking at the individuals whom these FBS schools are choosing, these kids are merely the ‘creme of the crop’. These universities are going after the strongest and fastest kids in the United States who fit their program and can help them win games. While there are many ways to train to achieve these standards Crossfit seems to be the new epidemic to make an impact in the sports world. The coaching staff wants to know does crossfit have a positive impact on a football athlete’s performance? Colleges and Universities are wanting to know a wide variety of things in the recruiting

This program is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to make the best of the athlete’s physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. “This definition of fitness encompasses all types of fitness: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance and Accuracy” (Sibley, 2012, p. 42). Most if not all are needed in the game of football. Being bigger, faster, stronger is the goal! If a player can accomplish gains in those areas they will be a more dominant athlete in football. A running back needs to be faster to break away in open field and avoid being tackled. They need to be strong enough to be able to not be tackled by the first person and possibly carry a few defenders along the way. They need to be able to change direction and use their speed to change an average play into a big gain if not a score. A wide receiver needs the explosive speed from his stance at the line of scrimmage. They need to be able to jump high to go up over defenders to catch passes. The secondary not only needs to cover the wide receivers using their speed but they must also use power to hit the opposing team and be able to jump with the receivers going up for passes. Lineman must be explosive and powerful. For them everything starts with their legs and using that power to move people. As in crossfit when you get tired your technique begins to become a problem and the same goes for football. Every person on a football field needs conditioning to prepare for games but with conditioning technique is key. Running, jumping and lifting is what the coaches will have their athletes doing in a crossfit program. When the coaches teach them how to position their bodies to be as strong as possible and as fast as possible. CrossFit training will improve every aspect of a players

    These players usually loft twice everyday except Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tuesday because they get the whole day off for rest. Saturday is off because they don't want injury before game day along with resting before the thing you have taken a week preparing form. There is nothing worse then when your team starts out flat and falls behind two touchdowns at the beginning of the game. And obviously Sunday because you have a game that day. They start the lifting with re-hab and core this is crucial for injury prevention. Then you start doing dynamic lifts which is lifting fast quick like power lifts. To end weight lifting you do auxiliary lift which are lots of weight that requires a spotter or personal trainer. Players then enter the practice facility where they use the JUG machines these are big machines like they use in 5th grade baseball to pitch the ball to you. Except these ones are big enough to put football through. To use the machine the player must go one knee and put his had right in front of the machine this helps the players with hand strength and their ability to catch the ball. Student athletes need to learn how to prioritize their “Three S’s,” study first, sports second, and their social life third.
