Martin Luther King was an extreme advocate of nonviolent protests in order to achieve social changes. He was the leader of nonviolent protests against segregation “Negros” and “Whites”. Unfortunately, his nonviolent protests to obtain equality between “Negros” and “Whites” were unsuccessful. Additionally, Birmingham City passed a stipulation prohibiting street marches without approval to do so. Therefore, King took action and began protesting for equality because he and his followers were displeased with this legislation. In reaction to the protest, King was arrested and “A Call for Unity” was published that day by clergymen criticizing King saying that the protest was “unwise and untimely.” While King was in jail, he addresses his “Letter from Birmingham City Jail” to the clergymen explaining that what he was doing was the right thing and was at the right time. In his letter, he points out five main points: we are all interrelated, his nonviolent campaign, just laws versus unjust laws, nonviolent resistance, and the misconception of time.…

The problem to be investigated is the Duke Lacrosse scandal, which decimated a top collegiate athletic program and cast a negative shadow over one of the top academic universities. Duke University had one of the top men’s lacrosse programs in the county, which had won numerous national championships. Unfortunately, the decisions and actions of some of the team members threatened to destroy the reputation of the lacrosse program and the entire university. The media and society have developed a large appetite for scandal that is still evident today, whether it is due to sex, drugs, cheating or spying (Mazanov & Connor, 2010). The real life drama of the Duke lacrosse team was spread out over several months and included the lacrosse season being cancelled, three players indicted on rape charges, a crooked prosecutor, turncoat faculty members and administrators, irate neighbors and even dirty cops, all of whom had their own personal agendas (Jennings, 2009). The story was also fueled with the racist overtones, which alluded to the rich white athletes who sexually abused the poor inner-city black female stripper. This case is a reminder of the destructive power of racism fueled by political correctness and a desire to gain political influence by any means.…

Kaeprnick says he sat down during the national anthem because of the racism acts happening against the black community, as shown with all the recent cop shootings. I am not saying that some cops will not target blacks, nevertheless there are numerous respectful ways in which an individual could take a stand without causing countless other problems. No one should disrespect their country, no matter the reason. Accordingly, it does not help when groups of individuals run around destroying cities by rioting. If these individuals keep making more of a mess of this subject, then it will never become better. If a cop targeted someone in my family and killed them, I would become irate, so I can understand how these families might feel. Making a peaceful stand would create a greater impact than the rioting that countless individuals has done as of late. These individuals should not allow their feelings to affect their ability to perceive the outcome of their actions.…
