Collaborative Working In Health Care

Modern health care is developed and delivered by team work and collaborative practices (Thistlethwaite, 2012). A team is a set of interpersonal relationship structured to achieve established goals (Johnson and Johnson, 2006) and team work is the way people work together and effectively (Hammic et al, 2009). Collaborative working is the newer term for the team work which, is very important in health care as it reduces the health care related risks and act as the vector for maximising good quality health care (Downe et al, 2010). In health care service, collaboration is seen as particularly important for patients who need complex care needs (Liz, 2012). In Anne, for her fast recovery during the postoperative period, the input from various healths
professional such as nurses, consultant, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, radiologist and the pharmacist are very significant part of her care. Collaborative practices involve working together to achieve a goal that neither of the profession could achieve alone (Goodman and clemow,2009). This statement highlights the importance of working together, suggesting that certain patient outcomes cannot be achieved if people did not come together. Similarly Barrett et al (2005) states that inter professional working means as same as the collaborative working where the members of different profession work together to provide integrated health and social care for the benefit of service user.
