College Admissions Essay: A Career As A Nurse
“Make the most of yourself… for that is all there is of you.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson. I want to be a better person; the best way to better myself, I think, is by helping others. If I become a nurse, I’ll have the opportunity to help people everyday. I have to overcome family issues before I can start this process, However, I am staying positive by joining activities that make me blissful. If I become a nurse I will be able to help others. Helping others has always made me feel like a good person, something I’ve always needed to work on. I don’t see myself as a bad person, but there is things I’ve never really like about myself. If I do join the nursing field, it would be a blessing to me. I want to help others because no one has ever really “helped” me in my life. Something I really wish I had back when everything was overwhelming.
At a point I did want to graduate early. But the opportunity of KCKCC TEC came up and I want to get the chance to take at least one course there over anything in the nursing field. I also plan to take at least a couple college classes before I graduate so I can go to college with a couple college credits. My mother and nephew have been my biggest motivation. I have seen how much my mom works in order to buy my nephew, my sister and me things. To keep food on the table and to keep us healthy. I hardly see my mom on weekdays. She spends most of her time working. I only see her when I have to pick her up from work and that’s for an hour or two if I get lucky, because she soon has to head to her second job that I also take her to. Everyday seems like a struggle due too our lack of communication. I feel like this is why I have grown to be independent. It can get a little out of hand still but I always forget about my problems when I’m doing what I love the most.

Do you ever find it hard to figure out where they are hiring ? or finding a job that suits your needs? if you answered “yes” to either of these questions, there is a skill called “networking”. So, you must now be asking yourself what is networking? As it states in a website called definitions.net, networking means “To take steps to make and cultivate the acquaintance of people who can be helpful to oneself, especially in finding new employment, advancing to a higher position in one's occupation, or exchanging information.” (GCIDE,5). This skill can be a very easy way to find a job, networking can be done either by face to face, gatherings, or contact methods such as email, phone, social and/or business networking websites. I believe one of the hardest aspects of being a nurse is having to deal with a patient’s death, especially if it’s unexpected, and you have grown close to them. Although I am not a nurse, I do know the pain of losing someone dear to me, just as every individual does. As a new nurse, of course, it would be difficult to handle a sudden and bloody patient death. As of right now I don’t know how I would handle it because I have not had to face such a situation. Dealing with a patient’s sudden death would be really emotional, but I would try to move on from the experience. I usually try to make light of a depressing situation. When I have issues or something on my mind, I talk to friends about how I am feeling. I think a way to get pass through…

Nursing is a second career for me. It is one I have approached gradually, over a long period of time. I might have chosen it as a first career if I had been a better student when I entered college, or had people in my life who were involved in healthcare careers when I was growing up. As it was, I had a longstanding interest in health and the human body, but nursing seemed very foreign, and the idea of touching strangers made me uncomfortable.…
