Being the first-born child in my family has allowed me to act as the pioneer among my siblings. Learning to lead in the home has been exciting but daunting at times. As the oldest child, I have had to learn responsibilities and patience with the supporting love and care of my mom and dad. They have always cheered me on, guiding and encouraging me to follow my interest in volleyball. For example, during my middle school years, I expressed an interest in volleyball. When I was in second grade, my teacher noticed my struggle with reading and math and contacted my parents. Diagnostic testing was recommended, which confirmed a learning disability. I began educational therapy in third grade, and that program taught me study skills and organizational strategies that will benefit me throughout my educational experience and life. Without the encouragement and extra help from my teachers, I think I would still be struggling in school; however, that is not the case today. This year will be my senior year, and I no longer need special education services.
