College Admissions Essay: Applying To My Career Path
In high school, I felt as if I had been going through the motions my entire life, hoping that when I graduated, I’d be in a position that suited me and made me happy. My college experience so far has helped ground me to the point that, although I still do not know what I want to do, I think more often about those who are marginalized and forgotten, and that I can make a difference in Louisville, instead of attempting to escape to a bigger city.

I expect to receive guidance and advice that pertains to my career path, especially with information that will help me realize whether or not I will enjoy what I’m aiming to do. I’d hope to receive a mentor who could both provide information without being questioned, but who is also comfortable answering

There are different people in the world who have impacted students’ life. In my 9 years of school, there has been one teacher that I really loved and she really impacted on my life by the way she handled things and how she lived her life. Her name was Mrs. Hollenbaugh. She impacted my life because she would always encourage us to stick to our dreams and also because she would take responsibility unlike some people and own up to her mistakes. But she would learn from that mistake and become a better person by not doing that mistake again.…

Hello, I am currently a junior in college. This has been my third at Houston community college. I initially started off by wanting to be a Dental Hygienist but later I started to realize it was not something I was passionate about. I soon came to the conclusion that I want to be an elementary school teacher. In the beginning I was thinking about money rather than a degree I would be dedicated to. I graduated high school back in 2011 and to be honest college was never in my panorama. After graduating I got my first job at Family dollar and that was my wake up call. I realized that I would not be able to live an abundant life getting paid minimum wage. I knew that if I wanted to make a difference in my life, I would have to go back to school.…

I was very reserved when I first started high school, but after attending a leadership training conference in 2011, my personality, my confidence, and my overall life outlook changed for the better. Ever since, I have returned to that conference each summer as a counselor in order to help others find their voices as well. At around the same time, I began working at the Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe, helping customers, preparing products for sale, taking specialty orders, and assisting in regular tasks. After about three years at the bakery, I headed up to Connecticut for college as an Honors student, undecided in terms of a major. It entailed me taking many classes across multiple departments, getting involved in several clubs, and attending diverse lectures, but after freshman year, I realized my true interests lie in business, specifically management information systems.…

Before I came to Randolph-Macon, I was narrow-minded, not social, and was against coming out of my comfort zone. My mindset before coming to college was that I could come to college for 4 years, coming home almost every weekend, and go right back home and work on the water or work in the office of my parent’s clam and oyster company. Now I have broadened my horizons and see myself doing so much more with my life. Making it through that terrible first week of college, I realized I could make it through anything and handle anything life threw to at…

After Graduate School, I hope to have my PhD in psychology or my doctorate in psychiatry. I would like to start out working in jails, talking to criminals and analyzing their brains versus the brain of an average adult to study how the brain reacts with criminal activity and why they do and feel what they do. I have heard that a person can not do that type of work for very long because it is emotionally tasking so after that, I would like to open my own counseling practice up. I would do either marriage and family therapy or focus on teenage depression. Eventually, I would like to retire into school psychology or become a psychology teacher. Also, if I ever have enough money, I will buy a house devoted to taking in stray animals…

My whole life I have been a leader, the rule maker, the boss, a take charge and a "get stuff done" type of person. These qualities I attribute to being the oldest sibling, raised by a strong mother, and a stepfather determined to raise another man’s child as best he could. I thrive in situations where I can have control and can help guide a team or myself to the best possible outcome. I apply these characteristics to nearly every aspect of my life, sometimes to a fault. After dropping out of college eight years previously, to follow my dreams of being a makeup artist, I woke up one day and decided my life need a change. Not completing school had always weighed on me over the years like an unfinished task needing to be done. So, why now, what changed? My outlook on life shifted after meeting a special little boy named Jackson.…

All children are required to graduate high school, but pursuing higher education is only recommended. While high school curriculum is designed to prepare students for higher education, students learn essential career readiness skills while enrolling in higher education classes. Since students are not obliged to pursue higher education, many students who decide not to continue their education lack the skills necessary for future careers. While some schools hope to implement career readiness for either all their students or for only the students who do not wish to pursue college, other schools do not want to offer career readiness programs as they believe that it offers incentives for students not to attend college. Schools should require all students to take career readiness classes as…

As a child, I decided to pursue an aspiration that began with a child’s doctors kit. I wanted to have a career as a doctor. I was on board with being dressed as the part; wearing scrubs, and always carrying a stethoscope. Looking back, today I would consider myself wise beyond my years. I wanted to help others feel better, or assist them in any way I could. A main characteristic of mine was being analytical. I am an equally observant and curious person. I desire to find out how the world works, or find solutions to problems. I consistently had questions about my environment. In pre-school, I got along with everyone in my classroom. I loved going to school for the fact that I was always able to learn something new. I’ve always been drawn to…

The career that I have literally chosen is the automotive service technician and mechanics career. The reason why I chose this career it’s because… Well actually I have plenty and many reasons to choose from because I am very passionate about this career and I have lived through it my entire life. One reason is that Auto Mechanics is because to me it’s an interesting field to me. I decided to explore the topic a little more to get a better understanding of what it would take to become a successful automotive technician . I have lived through the auto mechanics field pretty much all through my life. Well actually since I have been born. The reason of this is very simple. That is because my very own dad is an auto mechanic himself. Well actually to be more exact, he owns his own auto mechanic shop. Since I was little I have always helped him at his work because I have always enjoyed working with vehicles. Since the very first day that I started working with him I already knew that the automotive field was the job for me. Since I was a baby my very own parents use to tell me that I would disappear out of their sight. And when they used to find me I used to be playing with the tools besides my dad helping him out. I have pretty much made my mind up about actually going further in this career. Not only because I actually enjoy doing that job but also because of the pay check that you receive. Well actually that is a bonus in it. It does matter to me the money that you earn in it but not as much as I like doing the activity of interacting and working with automobiles. I have faith in me that one day I am not only going to fix cars, but I am also going to own my own shop myself.…

I spent my last year trying to enjoy my time and desiring that other people invited me to be in their company that I had no plan for when that last school bell rang. When it finally rang out, I was again lost. The only difference was that I no longer had classes. Going to Rock Valley rectified that. Like other kids going to a community college, I had no direction in my classes and was without an idea about what a degree would get me.…

Although I was a good student, I didn’t know what I wanted to do after high school. I had an interest in government and politics however I knew I didn’t want to be a politician. I applied to college and was accepted as a political science major. My family could afford to send me to college however it would have to be close to home so that I could stay at home and commute, thereby saving the cost of room and board. However, I was not completely comfortable with that choice. What I really wanted to do was to go away to college and gain some independence. I believed that once young people graduated high school they were supposed to leave home and be more responsible for their lives. As a result of this…
