College Admissions Essay: Equal Opportunity At The University

For years, I took from my community. I grew up in a welcoming place where I had ample opportunity to succeed. However, in recent years, I have begun promoting this same excellence and equal opportunity to both my own community and the rest of the nation. I have also begun contributing back to the community in a way that will foster the same enjoyment for education that I have. In college, I plan to do the same on a much grander scale. On field trips as children we were always told “you’re representing your school here. Please behave, everything you do reflects upon your community.” My interpretation of this warning has evolved over the years to encourage positive representation. Whenever I find myself as one of only a few representatives of this community, I strive to make a significant positive impact on my current situation. At Boys State, I cheered for opposing sports teams until I lost my voice; as the Senate Majority Leader, I gave equal opportunity to the entire community by writing and defending my own bill through House and Senate to promote academic competition as equal to athletic. In Mu Alpha Theta, I have encouraged the same equal opportunity and excellence by promoting and expanding school tutoring. December, I lead the planning of an academic competition for which 124 Knox County elementary students registered,
The full extent to which I can affect the world in these ways is mostly determined over my next four years and the opportunities I have during that time. Replacing a financial burden with the available time to research as an undergraduate could allow me to advance my dreams of becoming a professor, one of the most influential professions on the academic community, a college, and the community within.
