myself in. I am ready for some more change.
Beginning my Junior year of high school, students were offered an opportunity to study for free at St.
Petersburg College, a community college (now state) nearby my neighborhood. I thought it was too good of an opportunity not to apply, and I was accepted into the program for my Senior year along with a few of my friends. Learning in college was a lot different than high school, but all of my professors were great at making sure all students understood curriculum and did what they came there to do-learn. After walking the stage at Raymond James Stadium in my sparkling pointed-toe pumps and my high school diploma in my hand, I wasn’t struck immediately with a scholarly plan or a set of assembly directions on how to put my life together so I could get into the college I was destined for. No, instead I had a Cheesecake Factory dinner awaiting me, which I cannot complain about, but alas I was still unsure on what I even wanted to study. I decided to stay at SPC another year, and I am going to graduate with my AA at the end of next Spring. My learning at St. Petersburg College has been a great experience that I only have good to say about, but I think it is time for me to put on my sparkly pumps and walk my way to another
certificate.
Along with earning another degree, I want to learn new things by new people. Every individual has their own teaching style, and I like to take lectures from varying professors to see their points of view and put together a system that works for me. I love meeting new people and listening to their stories of how they have overcome obstacles and advice on issues facing our world today. Each person has their own tale to tell, and I am an excited audience member ready to absorb information and output my own stories onto others. I want to be able to express and grow my skills along with others on similar paths who are excited to help our peers succeed as well as ourselves. I am ready for a new environment. I grew up in the Bahamas with a smaller population and unique culture, and I am more than welcome to share my heritage and views others. I am also interested in the vivid lifestyles that are different from country to country. I am eager for a new flavor to add to my dish.
All things above considered, I am looking forward to what new experience may come in the year ahead. I have accomplished my degree here at St. Petersburg College and open to what new changes will come in furthering my education. I am hungry to meet new people and be in a new environment. New things can be scary, but I have the support and drive to reach towards my goals. I am ready to learn.
