Leonardo da Vinci. The Last Supper (after restoration).Leonardo’s “Last Supper” is a priceless piece of art with much hidden meaning and obvious talents bestowed upon a wall. Leonardo was able to use his skills in creating a very detailed and a very naturalistic piece of work that would be remembered for hundreds of years. “An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one.” This was once said by sociologist Charles Horton Cooley. That may be true, but what does it take to become one? How do artists find their passion? Elizabeth McKemy is currently a skilled art teacher at the Wilson High School. Art is not only her career, but it’s her passion, too. This has not always been her path, though. Like many people, McKemy at, one point, did not know what she wanted to do with her life.…
I loved art. When I was a young child I would always design new temples, and pyramids in the sand. I loved to paint, I would make my own paint and draw on anything I possibly could. I was passionate about it all. Father and mother always supported my art, but they expected me to follow father’s footsteps and become a scriber. I didn’t want to be a scriber. I wanted to be a painter. I wanted to design the newest, most beautiful pyramid in Egypt. It was a big dream, but I was determined to make it happen. I would be the greatest painter Egypt has ever seen.…

I am a Vietnamese person who has moved to America for about thirteen years, and I did not think that I am going to study art because my family, a Vietnamese tradition family, did not want me to practice in art. In their mind, art is something that is unreal job. They said that artists do not make good salary, and their works become expensive only when the artist passed away. They believe that only doctor, nurse, and lawyer are real job. Therefore, when I told them that I am going to practice art, nobody in my family supports me, and they also ridicule me. I can understand why they ridicule me. It is because they totally don't know what is art. In their mind, they think that art is paint and sculpture, but they have never thought about digital…

As I attempted to perfect my drawing and painting skills in high school, I slowly realized through more serious art classes that I was taking that the conceptual ideas behind your work can say much more than just a simple, beautifully painted picture. More than anything, art is about sending a message. Thinking about the ideas behind your work is the most crucial part in discovering who you are as an artist. For me, I want to make art inspired by what I’ve been through, things that I have experienced first-hand and felt so strongly in my lifetime: things like fear, love, heartbreak, feeling alive, feeling lost, feeling connected to the world. I want to visually depict emotion in my art, and use it to help other people know that they’re not alone in the ways they feel and things they go through. When I think about what I want to do for the rest of my life, the mark I want to make on the world, all I know is that I want to talk about all of these elements of life. I want to make people think about them. I want to pull them apart, and try to make some sense of them. This realization was liberating- and I discovered a much more intense passion for art as a…
I remember the first time I created art. I was seven years old and I was already in the midst of learning about myself. The pencil crayons felt like paint brushes as I let my inner artist run wild. I felt like Matisse himself even though I had no idea who that was at the time. I drew a rose and an off-coloured clownfish that looked more like Tiger. Although the things I drew had no significance, the idea of creating something captivated me ever since. I practiced baking to settle my need for creation and ended up falling in love with the hobby; baking is what fulfilled my need for creation and decoration. I still satisfy my need for art by occasionally visiting the Art Gallery of Ontario or drawing silly sketches the on scrap pieces of paper…
Since I was old enough to hold a crayon, I have wanted to be an artist. The desire to create has grown exponentially with time, and so I attended the University of Iowa to expand my creative capabilities and learn from the work of experienced faculty and other students. Through my studies, I quickly learned a traditional fine arts education focused on technique. However, I learned the strength of my art resided in the conceptualization of my own story and emotions…
What is art for me? This is a legitimate question, but the answer is not easy. The simplest answer is to say that it is art which stood the test of time and still remains meaningful. When I heard this question, it made me think about the word art: What is art for me? ; How do I define art? ; And what is its significance to my life?…
