I began my education at UTPA in 2008 my grades were going well until fall 2009. Around this time my 10-year-old sister got diagnose with ovarian cancer. The cancerous tumor in her ovary was removed but doctor decided to give her two treatments of Chemotherapy to make sure any cancers cells would not return. During this time, I was not discipline with my studies as I should have been. I know my sister’s illness was not an excuse to do badly …show more content…
in my classes, but I felt the need to be there for her and my family during this time, that I did not make school my priority even though it should have been. After this difficult experience, I decided to focus myself once again and try my best in school. In Spring 2011, I decided to focused on work, get married, and start a family. My son was born September 5th 2012. The day he was born something inside changed, I knew I wanted to give him everything. I wanted him to look up me and be proud of his mom. I understood that in order for me to be someone I needed to go continue my education and work on my bachelor’s degree. I took 2 classes during my first semester back in order to focus and get used to being in school once again. There were days in which I thought I was not going to be able to do it however, every time I looked into my sons eyes I saw the motivation to keep going.
December 13th 2014 was one of the best days in my life. I still recall seeing my son and family in the stands as the president of the university mentioned for the family of the graduates to stand up and be recognized. I worked so hard that year and I was able to reach my goal and I am extremely proud of myself for that. As you can see in my transcript the last year I obtained above a 3.0 GPA in every semester. I am confident that if accepted I will work hard and do everything in my power to excel to the best of my abilities. My plan to raise my GPA is to organize myself and set time every day to study and go over class material. I understand that the graduate program is more difficult but I am determined to apply myself and get the grades needed to be successful. I look forward to learning a lot more in detail about my career field. I have a great desire to help people with disabilities explore their needs, manage their symptoms, and successfully live their lives. It is important to focus on a person’s capability rather than their disability. For this reason, I hold a special connection with this program and immense passion in raising public awareness about
disability and its issues. Working with people with disabilities and being the parent of a child with a disability has played a significant role in my decision to advance my education to the graduate level. I have two little boys who give me great motivation and inspire me every day to be the best person I can be.
I ask you to reconsider your decision. I Know if given the opportunity I will excel and maintain a 3.0 GPA and better throughout Graduate School. Thank you for your time and consideration.
