Dear Andrea, As you know, I am currently attending San Joaquin Valley College for a 7-month program as a Medical Assistant. I remember you implying that you had an interest in the medical field and thought I would give you some insight information on what type of programs are available. I know that you will be highly impressed with everything this school has to offer, and you can finally move forward with your education and career. When I made the call to SJVC, I was directed to my advisor Marissa. She immediately set me up with an appointment and took the time to get to know me. They will direct you to a financial aid administrator where they can set you up with loans and grants to cover you while attending school. I was eligible for a $6,500 grant that I will not have to pay back. Free money sounds great right? I know you’re thinking, “How can I possibly pay this money back?” Well the education you will be getting here is going to benefit you for the rest of your life. This is a private school where you will learn hands on procedures and training in your specific field. It is nothing like Willow International and Fresno City, where you’re in a class full of 50 students or more, with no one on one communication with the instructor. We have about 25 students or less in each class and the instructors are great! My instructors interact with every student and have open doors for help whenever needed. Most of all, you will be attending school with me, doesn’t that sound fun? Considering we are both working in a low pay job environment, a student resources center is offered involving people with your needs as their priorities in helping you find a full/part time job. Also in the lab center is Mr. G. for tutoring. He has helped me pass all my readiness plans and assisted me on several assignments. Located on the bottom floor there is a lunch area, with food and beverages. Because I know you have to have your cigarette break, there is a specific area located by the snack bar just for you, ha-ha. As you know my car barely gets me from point A to B and I know your transportation situation is similar to mine, where finding rides doesn’t always work out. SJVC offers a student rideshare. This enables students to find others at the campus who can or need help with transportation to and/or from
