Smithville School Room Reflection
As my high school career comes to a close, I have had some incredible experiences inside the hallways and classrooms at Smithville. I was blessed to have some amazing teachers who made sure I understood everything I was being taught to helping me through in some tough times in life. No matter the issue, problem, or if I just wanted to talk, the teachers at SHS were always there to listen. Our faculty really proved the point of caring for the students who walked the hallways of SHS and really trying to get to know them as people, not just students.
Richard Branson said, “Take care of your employees and they’ll take care of your business.” Although Smithville School District is not necessarily a business, it has long been upheld that a school’s business is the students so if we replace the word business in Branson’s quote, it would read “Take care of your employees and they’ll take care of your students.” This, is how Smithville School District can improve the education of the students who follow in the class of 2017 footsteps, always remember to take care of your employees. The effects of taking care of the employee are exponential. By taking care of the employees, they feel safer, happier and ultimately want to come to work and teach the

Care about our teachers lives, know their names and find out a little bit about them. By knowing the team and showing that there is care in times of need and in times of joy, teams feel so much more loved and safer. When the effort is really taken to get to know the people who make up the team, the people react in a real way that makes a positive impact. Ultimately that positive impact effects the students of Smithville and helps them develop a stronger education. The teachers would then pass on the same relationship to the students and soon enough the district transforms into one with the nicest people who offer the best

The phrase “people don’t change for leaders they don’t like” reflects the current turnover rate at Southaven Elementary. Christy Johnston has not developed a strong mission and vision for Southaven Elementary School; therefore, teachers and students lack commitment, due to lack of guidance. She is not in every classroom, everyday. Many of the teacher’s observations were pushed aside until the last days of school, which left them feeling as if their feedback was distorted. Emotional bank accounts were not consistently filled throughout the building, which has led to negativity and resentment. Diversity of multiple intelligences and strengths is not celebrated, and most teachers and staff feel that they are not able to voice their opinions for fear they will not be listened to, or valued. Mrs. Johnston does not know or spend time with the students of Southaven Elementary. She does not know any individuals on a personal level unless they are a major discipline…

I had lost many friends because I refused to ditch class and smoke. I was deemed uncool because I put school work before anything else. This wasn’t anything like the environment I had hoped for. During the last several months of my Freshman year, I decided to transfer yet again; I was going back to Beaverton School District. Luckily, I knew plenty of kids from Junior High and Elementary school, but I was still concerned. Would I be thrown into another school run by stoners? Would I be able to receive the education I had expected from Wilson? The answers to those amazed me. From the first day of school, I felt like I had been here for years. Students were quick to introduce themselves, many offering to show me around or tell me all the hangout spots. I was amazed by the kindness that everyone showed to a complete stranger. Students held doors for me, invited me to sit with them in class or at lunch, and were quick to offer tips on how to survive BHS.…

I give the girls advice on how to be a better teammate and athlete. I feel this impacts the players’ attitudes which positively affects FFES.…
