College Essay There have been many significant occurrences in my life. However I think that the absolute most significant is when I first started playing softball. Softball has pretty much built who I am today. I believe that deciding to play was one of the best decisions I have made in my almost eighteen years of living.
I first started playing softball when I was five years old. I don’t necessarily remember how I got talked into playing, but I’m sure glad that I did. I couldn’t tell you about the very first game I played in, but I know the first position I played was third base. As I’ve grown in the softball world, I did more than play third base. I’ve played every position on the field except for catcher. I absolutely love playing this sport. I couldn’t imagine myself without it. If it wasn’t for softball, I wouldn’t have as much knowledge about the game as I do today.
The impact this sport has had on my life is beyond belief. There have been times when I have been in the worst mood a person could be in, and softball has calmed me down. Softball is my stress reliever. It’s helped me become a better person. I’ve learned what sportsmanship is, and how a negative attitude can affect everyone on the field/court. Softball has also boosted my self-confidence. At the start of my high school career in this game, I had zero confidence at the plate. However, since I have had proper coaching, I believe more in myself than I ever have before.
With softball being the most significant occurrence in my life, I believe that everyone should find something that makes them feel as confident in themselves as softball does me. I think that any sport or activity that makes someone feel comfortable with themselves is one that they should stick with. I’ve stuck with softball for so long because I am not a quitter, and I feel like the softball field is one place I can be myself and not worry about what anyone has to say about my

Softball isn’t just a sport, it’s a passion. Last year, in a softball game, I tripped and cause us to get all three outs. My team, as well as my coach, was very upset. As a consequence, I sat the next two innings out. Sitting alone and thinking about how my mistake could cost us the game, I felt as though I needed to prove to my team that I didn’t mean to and that I could help get the game back. I finally convinced my coach to let me back in the game. An inning had gone by I still hadn’t proven myself. I was getting nervous. Bottom of the ninth, my chance came. Playing shortstop, a ground ball was headed straight for me. I caught it, and threw it to first. First then through it to third, and I tagged the runner coming from second base. A triple play! We were three points ahead and had won the game. I had such a feeling of self-accomplishment and pride. I had proven to the team that I was a…

Keys for a Softball Player Possibly one of the most overlooked sports, due to its male competition of baseball, softball flies under most radars, as baseball appears to be the harder sport due to the flame throwing, power hitting and defensive specialists of the MLB. Although, softball is equally as hard as baseball in just about every aspect. Due to the sports being similar in style and how the game is played, the keys for a player are just about the same, if not the same.…

The wind blew around me as I rushed over to the softball field where I saw two girls the coach. I had been anticipating this for a week and it was finally here, my first ever softball practice. I recognized the two girls from junior high and could still remember their names, Sadie and Blake, and was able to meet a new friend whose name I have forgotten already. I also met Coach Smith. I had never been to the Lehi Sports Complex, but just being on the fields there was enough to excite me. We spent the entire hour and forty minutes catching, throwing, and batting.…

My accomplishments in softball were second team third baseman for my freshman and sophomore year and my junior year I got the first team utility player. I have got voted team captain in softball. In softball we had two coach changes, out first coach was Mr. Chavez and the coach currently is Mr. Torgeson. These two men have different coaching methods and it was very hard to adjust. Chavez was all about the hitting and Torg was all about bunting. There overall look at how the game is played are completely different from each other. Therefore when he had a coaching change it was a big shock for me. As a freshman, I played on the varsity team and I really loved getting to have that experience. I loved playing softball and I have played since I was about 5. In Softball I seem to always hurt myself, I have hip problems and I just recently had surgery on my wrist because of softball. Therefore I learned that you need to take care of yourself and work out to keep everything attached. You also need to practice hard to succeed because in my opinion, I think hitting a softball is super hard and you need lots of practice succeed. Softball is a great example of you will fail first before you succeed because in softball there is three strikes and you might not hit the first pitch but you can hit the next one. Therefore batting in softball you might fail first before he succeed. “Never let the fear of striking out get in your…

One of the reasons why softball needs to be back in the Olympics is because younger women dream about being on an Olympic softball field playing their hearts out. “The most difficult part of this has been reading emails from hundreds of young female softball players worldwide saying that their Olympic dreams have been taken” porter said (LA Times). This obviously states that young female softball players are suffering by the decision of taking softball out of the Olympics. “It’s hard not to think about the Olympics when you’re playing at this level. It is devastating because this is what I dreamed about growing up, playing…

As a child, I grew up carrying a baseball glove and a pearly white baseball wherever I went, hoping for the chance of finding a partner to play catch with. The game of baseball was never just a game for me; it was a lifestyle that I had fallen in love with. With that being said, the fundamentals of baseball had no immediate effect on me as a kid. Every single day I was outside either playing catch or working out. I remember at the time I was playing for the St Louis Sting, I continued the season to have the most innings pitched, lowest earned run average, second highest batting average, most doubles, most strike outs, and I also pitched my first no-hitter. Without having the dedication or motivation none of this could have happened. I went from playing catch once a week to everyday. I also would continue on and play baseball at Parkway South High School and lead that season in strikeouts. As I grew older I started to realize that I have the capability to play baseball for the rest of my life and that's something that is unexplainable. To be able to do something you love to do for the rest of your life is remarkable to me. I get that all because of a game.…

I have been playing softball for my school’s team for the past three years. My father had always encouraged me to be active, and get back into softball.
