actions of these teens were caused due to the rated M videogames that they tend to play. Similarly, these past two massacres that occurred in the year 2012, the same government and people wanted and still want to once again ban these video games. Some people must think that this makes perfect sense and ask why these games haven't been banned yet but what most people don't know is that there has not been a single study proving that any rated M videogame is causing or has caused a violent action. Therefore, it would be very unfair and invalid to ban violent video games for this or any reason at all until someone proves that these types of games cause violent actions.
As I said before, a casual bond between rated M videogames and violent actions has not yet been proven.
There is a lack of studies that follow kids that tend to play these types of video games for a long period of time. This shows us that these accusations are invalid because no one has proven that “violent video games” cause violent actions. Also, violent thoughts have often been confused with violent actions. For example, someone might say “I hate Becky I want to kill her!” This is just the way teens talk. Just because someone says this doesn’t exactly mean they will do it. Were just teens, we say things we don’t mean causing others to think we have turned into some sort of monsters. I know I said that there is no bond between rated M videogames and violent actions but there is just a tiny one. The only bond that has been proven about these two is that kids that are already violent for many other reasons like bullying, child abuse etc. are the ones who tend to look for these games. The people that want to ban these videogames are making it seem like these video games are some sort of black hole that is just waiting to suck up any kid and turn them into some sort of violent machine. But as you now know, this is a false
accusation.
Returning to the topic of the massacres, lately everyone wants to blame video games for being the cause of these accidents. Well let me tell you that they are WRONG! No one on this earth has ever proven that rated M video games were the cause all these massacres. Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance called the reports of videogames being the cause of this massacre "mere speculation" and said that no one could know the reason for the assassination. Also millions and millions of people play videogames all around the world and you don’t see millions and millions of massacres happening on a daily basis. I also playvideogames and never has it crossed my mind to go around killing innocent people. In fact, a 2007 study reported that 45% of people played video games because "it helps me get my anger out" and that same study showed that 62% played these games because it "helps me relax." Playing these video games has often provided a safe outlet for aggressive and angry feelings. You see instead of video games harming the actions of these teens, it’s actually helping them release anger and relax. People should really stop judging books by their covers.
Finally, ever since video games were first invented, they have been an enormous contribution to our economy. The game call of duty: Modern warfare 2 (a rated M game) made $550 million dollars on its first 5 days after it’s release. Also it is estimated that revenue that will be made because of videogames is a little over than 7 million dollars. Indeed this is including all genres of video games. Yet another statistic shows that 6 out of the 10 most sold games in the U.S are rated M or how some people just love to all them, "violent." Ultimately, this shows how even after knowing how much video games contribute to the economy , the people still want to ban 6 of the most sold video games. Why do people want to ban video games ? Because they cause violence? Because they harm the thoughts of children? Because people don't know who to blame because of the mad world we are becoming. That's why ! It really is unfair and invalid to want to do so when their evidence is weak ! When no one has ever proven that "violent" video games cause violence in people.
