a teacher, they have to learn about the divergent learning styles that kids have. If teachers know that kids are going to gain knowledge differently, such as: comprehension process and learning styles, then why are students asked to take standardized tests as if we are all at one level? A change we would like to see is for schools to offer more required classes to graduate.
We focus on the common core classes more than classes that would prepare us for the future. Classes that should be required would be as followed: personal finance, life skills, workshop, and vocational. We feel that if we make students take classes like these then they might not have such a deer in the headlight look when they get into the real world. Our last change that we wish to see if for teachers to offer extra help in school. If we did away from the common core then we could slow down on certain criteria in the classroom. When teachers do this, they can teach the same lesson in different ways such as: auditory, spatial, linguistic, and kinesthetic. If teachers take the time to do this and a certain student still doesn’t understand then this student can be placed with a teacher that will work with them one on one. In conclusion, when you get into the real world, you will come across problems and expect yourself to come up with an answer in a short amount of time. The reason is that teachers teach us to answer things quickly and if you’re unsure then guess. Most of the time kids will come back and say, “man I wish I was still in high school.” The reason for this is that our teachers focus on preparing for these tests and not helping students prepare for what they will face when they leave high
school.
