Which is which?
This is normally used to comment on the ethics or morality of what is done. By itself, it might be reprehensible. But as the only method to achieve a goal, it could be acceptable on a practical basis. A simple example would be knocking down historic buildings as a last resort to control rat populations. A more complex example would be World War II, which included bombing German and Japanese cities to reduce their munitions production.
It blinds you to the true source of most conflicts. Once you’re caught in its trap, all of the “solutions” you propose will likely make matters worse.
What is essential to be done is an interpretation and not a fact." We tend to fall into this trap because we overestimate the cost of doing the right thing and underestimate the cost of failing to do so”.
On Fridays your children will be waiting alone at the bus-stop unless you leave work 20 minutes early. You cannot afford a decrease in salary and your boss rarely returns from a long lunch on Fridays. Which ethical trap/s could result from this conflict? When President Richard Nixon got caught up in the Watergate scandal, his arguments and denials led to his eventual demise. Bill Clinton also fell down the slippery slope but managed to survive only through some embarrassing and very public confessions.
This refers to the idea that if you need a specific outcome, it doesn't matter how it is achieved as long as you get the desired result. For instance, if you need to pass a test in order to graduate, you can cheating in order to pass the test.
It’s human nature to blame others, externalize causes and deny our role in organizational struggles. This tendency is so pervasive that few of us escape its reach, and it intrudes into every aspect of our lives.
