Outcome 1
1.1 Effective communication with children, young people and adults is important because it is the firm basis of a relationship. Building a good relationship help’s people of all ages to feel understood, supported and happier in their lives. For a child, young person and adult to have good communication skills can help them to address problems that may arise in a positive manner.
1.2 Building a rapport with children, young people and adults is a great way of building a relationship. Spend time getting to know them, talk together about every day events and show interest in their hobbies or ambitions. Showing that you care and that you are easy to talk too and also admitting when you are wrong and that it is ok to be wrong, creates open communication and trust.
1.3 There are many different ways to communicate and it is very important to keep personal and professional relationships separate. If an incident were to occur in the workplace, make sure to keep personal opinions to oneself as they may be conflicting with professional ones. It is also important to remember that we live in a diverse community where there are many cultural differences and beliefs, so always try to keep an open mind and try not to push our own beliefs onto others. We are a multi-national country and many families speak a foreign language which can affect verbal communication. Speaking slowly, clearly and using visual tools e.g. pictures, posters we can create communication, remembering to remain positive and encouraging. If a child or young person has started school and they do not speak English, learning some basics of their native language will help to build a positive
