What can you take as best practices from their example?
Through countless hours of research of W.L. Gore and Associates practices, collective the team has selected W.L. Gore and Associates open culture in the workplace as the company’s best practice. This practice has made the company the 38th best company to be employed by according to Fortune Magazine's 2012 list of 100 Best Companies to Work For. According to Fortune Magazine 2012, W.L. Gore and Associates limited traditional job titles and no bosses has made the company a distinctly egalitarian culture. The small teams whose members evaluate one another and the employee become a shareholder of the company after one year also contributed to the distinctly egalitarian culture (Fortune, 2012). A survey was administrated by Great Place to Work Institute to 280 participating companies of which the employees of W.L. Gore and Associates participated. The survey entailed questions such as management’s credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie (Gore, 2012). Other portions of the survey entailed questions to the W.L. Gore and Associates culture audit, which also included questions about pay, benefit programs, hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts (Gore, 2012).
What can you improve upon?
The one area that shows room for improvement is the W.L. Gore and Associates lack of job growth. Currently the company’s job growth is a two percent rate according to Fortune 2012. Global W.L. Gore and Associates has 9, 500 employees employed and is currently at the bottom when it comes to their job growth. According to Investopedia 2012 the job growth figure is between 100,000 to 150,000 of new jobs per month is considered to be the minimum level of job growth needed to diminish the effects of new applicants to the workforce.
