ABSTRACT:
The objective of this study is to make a comparison between studying English six years in public schools and one year at KAU in the foundation year. Also, another objective is to see how and why one year improved the students’ skills. My participants were the students who finished the foundation year. I prepared a questionnaire of 14 questions. I distributed 50 questionnaires to 50 male students here at KAU from different colleges. The study shows a big difference between the improvement levels in English after public schools and after the foundation year. In addition, we saw how and why the foundation year improved their skill based on the participants’ opinions about the stages of educational process. The study also, shows how we could improve teaching English in schools. Finally, the foundation year improved the students’ skills a lot but not better than six years together in intermediate and secondary schools.
Otherwise, if we calculate the difference between the developing levels in one year at KAU and one year in public schools the result will be obvious!
