Whereas in "A Letter Home" it says, "Some young people burned the ROTC building on campus and set some bonfires downtown. I heard that police cars were hit with bottles and store windows were broken"(2) They did not peacefully protest. They automatically asserted to violence. Another difference between the protestors in “A Letter Home’ and in “Waiting for Dan” is that in “Waiting for Dan” the protesters stood up for their rights by doing Freedom Rides. They are also protesting something that is happening in the United states. This is shown when “A group of African Americans whites would board buses and ride through the southern state’(4) Whereas in “A Letter Home” they are protesting something across the country. For example, “Many students were outraged when they heard that U.S soldiers invaded Cambodia on April 30th”(2). The protesters did not take any action to participate in helping to try to get the soldiers out of Cambodia. Instead they just got furious and violent.
