Memory
I can recall on several occasions where I have experienced a clear episodic memory. One experience was in 2001 when I was five years old. It was the day of 9/11 and I remember being in my kindergarten classroom. I remember the teachers on their cell phone with a paniclook on their face; they were talking about towers. A few minutes went by and my mom checked me out of school and I was so scared because I did not know what was going on. We got home and I remember my mom turning on the television. I had seen planes crashing into the twin towers and people were flying out of the building. My mom started crying and telling me to pray with her.
When I was younger, I remember my mom would always wear a certain perfume when we go to

Andrea, I like the paragraph you pulled from the book because it really sheds light on the major changes of how life is lived now. To Ish, the great disaster is something he has experiences first hand where the younger members of the tribe have only heard of what happened. As generations continue the great disaster becomes history, another event in a book. The first hand experience is gone because all who lived during it have pasted. There is a world of difference between experiencing something and being told about something. It reminds me of 9/11, being that freshmen entering high school this past year are the first class to learn about 9/11 as history because they were not alive during it. It’s a foreign concept for me to think that student…

Hearing the event from the perspective of a person who wasn’t directly affected or near the crash introduces a whole new type of experience. People, who like my parents, only received notice of the crash because of a family member they had no idea was in any kind of danger. My parents, at the time, weren’t aware of the importance of the Twin Towers or this possibility of a new worry of terrorism. They were able to be reassured simply by the fact that every loved one in the U.S then was okay. This particular perspective added to my knowledge of the personal experiences of the event, how the impact of the event can immediately increase because of a loved one being involved. Another detail from the interview that added to my knowledge was my mom…

It was a normal September day. I was 14 years old and had just arrived home on the school bus with my sister from a long day at school and was looking forward to skateboarding and playing with my dog. When I opened my front door I came in to only find my mother with a look of nervousness in her eyes as she stared at the t.v. (1-channel, Haun 4). There was a building on fire and the man on the news was saying the words “terrorist attack” over and over (2-linear transaction, Haun 3). We were living in England at the time so we didn’t have to deal with school being let out early and all of the rest of the chaos that people back home did. All we could do was watch and listen to what people back home were saying.…

September 11 2001 Narrative8:30 AM. I am in a meeting with Alliance Consulting CEO 's in Building 1 World Trade Center. We are all discussing booming businesses in the NYC region, getting very excited about a little computer chip processing company that has been getting very high marks on their last quota. All of a sudden, there is a loud whipping sound and the building begins shaking. Just a blink later and my hearing is gone, and I am lying on the ground trying to understand why the only color I see is blood red. I try to stand but realize that my legs are pinned by a 315 pound conference table with a smoked glass top and stainless steel frame. I emit a horrifying shriek, and my coworker Stanley Johnson runs up to me and yells at me to push on three. I can barely understand his terrified voice, but still push as hard as I can when I hear the word "one" come from his blood filled…

and Pennsylvania. Al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center. A third plane hit the Pentagon and the fourth plane crashed in a field. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. The day this happened the United States was turned upside down. This terrorist attack not only affected the ones that was there, but the families, friends and people watching from home. The news played videos and live footage of what was happening. My school was playing the news and I remember seeing people jumping from the burning buildings, hearing them scream and seeing people rushing in to save the lives of the people trapped inside. The news also played phone calls that had been made to 911 from the victims that were trapped inside the burning buildings. Praying for them to send…

On a beautiful Tuesday morning, the city of New York was woken up by one plane striking the north tower of the World Trade Center, near the 80th floor trapping hundreds of people on the above floors. It left a gaping hole in the side instantly killing anyone who was near the 80th floor. This was very bad because anyone above the 80th floor would be trapped and it would be very hard for rescuers to get to them.…
