Neil Postman argues Aldous Huxley’s novel Brave New World is a more relevant piece of literature based off the future than George Orwell’s 1984. The way I see it, Huxley’s vision focuses on what could go wrong from the inside, rather than Orwell’s idea of an outside force disrupting societal traditions. If the human body can evolve, so can the human mind. Huxley expresses that the people will grow to love their privileges. Of all the works that Aldous Huxley has produced the most intriguing and philosophical one would have to be Brave New World. Throughout his carrier Huxley has written many satirical novels about the flaws of society but none can compare the symbolism and depth that this novel presents. In Anthem and Brave New World the kids never meet their parents. Also both books show the people getting put into jobs based on who their parents were. Both elements helped keep the government in power, and prevent the kids from becoming dependent on their parents. In Brave New World it is a bad thing to know your child. Seen as an obscene action parents never want to know their child, this action is also shown in Anthem. “Children are born each winter, but women never see their children and children never know their parents” (Anthem Ch. 2 Pg. 41). During the years 1200 to 1500 CE, two ideal empires, Mali of Sub – Saharan Africa and the Aztecs of the Americas developed into truly influential and powerful empires. Both empires shared a similarity in economy but a different society. The Mali and Aztecs both traded, but while Mali traded with Islamic regions developing Islamic institutions within its borders, the Aztecs traded locally consequently not being influenced by outside cultures. Both Empires differed in society in which women in Mali tended to have more rights than women in an Aztec society whom they had little to no role in their society.
