Many teens have become victims of bullying. A fact is that there are two different types of this abuse which includes face to face and cyberbullying that victims experience. Regardless of the type of bullying, it can impact the victim's entire life. Amanda Todd, Megan Meier, and Phoebe Prince have all faced bullying and taken their own lives because of the tormenting they encountered.
Bullying and cyberbullying have both similarities and differences. Cyberbullying is different from face to face bullying because the bully can use the disguise of being anonymous to harass their victims. Unlike traditional bullying, cyberbullying can be done at anytime, anywhere, and can be life threatening. Another difference is that online bullying messages and images can be sent 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year and becomes permanent. Students who experience bullying are at high risks for sleep difficulties, anxiety, and depression. More than one out of every five students report being bullied, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics in 2016. Traditional bullying, also known as face to face bullying, has always had an effect on the victim. These consequences are physical, verbal, social, and definitely emotional. According to the US Department of Justice in 2010, over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Furthermore, approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day because of bullying. These statistics are alarming. There are more and more cases of bullying leading to youth and young adult suicide.
