Bullies Behind Bars: Article Analysis
Bullying is a difficulty effecting todays society. One would think that since we have advanced as a human race, that we'd look past one another's differences. Bullying is one of the worlds most devastating suicide options. Bullying takes 4,400 lives every year, according to the Nobullying.com website. According to the same article, 30,000 children stay home because of bullying. Bullying is a serious issue which needs to be punished harder. There are several types of bullying for example cyberbullying and bullying people based on how they look or features that are abnormal. For example in the article "Bullies Behind Bars?" , Carmen Morais makes mention of a young 15 year old child, who was bullied because she came from Ireland to the
United States. After her mother urged the school to punish the children involved of her bullying. The school seemed like they did little to nothing so three months later she committed suicide. Later on, she continues to say that even with laws that doesn't stop the bullies. One must agree, but at the very least there is some justice being done to those whom suffered personally or suffered by family members committing suicide. One could propose the idea that every state should have criminal offenses for bullying, because they do violate criminal offenses such as harassment, threats, and stalking. If anyone was to do that over the age of 18 they would be charge as criminal offenders. One who is the one of the cause, if not the main cause in someone's death should be charged by law because they are criminals. In the proposal, a person who bullied anyone and that person happens to commit suicide he or she will be jailed for a minimum of 25 years. Another proposal, is that every school in the United States is required to take two hours every other week to learn about how bullying isn't a good thing and how it takes lives. Also they must make mention of the law and the consequences. If they were to do that, one would grantee the rate of bullying to decrease and most importantly the rate of suicide would decrease. People might say that bullies are not always the bad guys and they could be the victims themselves. In some scenarios that could be true, but once they have been reminded constantly of the harsh punish and how it is unmoral and unethical to bully someone they will stop. Once they realize that one of the main factors of this country being great is all the different types of people. Bullying is an evil act done by some confused but mainly people who are insecure with in themselves. Bullying takes more lives than it should. The laws in place now are too weak because lives are still being taken away. Harder punishments are require for the sake of innocent lives.
