Which society would be better to live in? A society with no technology at all or a society where there is technology but it's there to limit the citizens living there? While being made up by two different people, these stories both take place in anti-utopias. Utopias are societies that are perfect and have no flaws, but when a utopia goes wrong, it becomes an anti-utopia. There are many similarities and differences between Anthem and Harrison Burgeron, and while their belief in equality is similar, their use of technology is hugely different.

In anthem, they are so against and behind technology that the only light they have is from candles, they have never seen electricity before and when they do see it, they get scared. “We have much to say to a wretch who have broken all the laws and who boast of their infamy” (Rand, page 71). This is the reaction from people have never seen technology after seeing it for the first time, which shows how against the society is of it, not to mention how angry they get as well. In Harrison though, they don't just use technology, they take advantage of it. “George while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little metal handicap radio in his ear” (Vonnegut, page 1) Not only do they watch tv and use technology for entertainment, but they use it to keep them equal. Since George is very smart, they give him an ear piece to keep him from using his mind. Technology wise, they are opposites, while Harrison embraces it, Anthem shuns it. So not everything in these two stories are the same.
Anthem and Harrison Burgeron have many similarities and differences, two of which being equality and technology. They may have different views on technology but they both agree on equality. So pick wisely which society is the best, technology or none, equality will still be a
