Will a robot pet teach children how to become responsible? Will the kids act like it's a toy and then eventually forget about it? Or will it even truly love you? In many ways the robot pets are making their way in our hearts, but they can never replace the real biological pets we all know and love. The responsibility factor in this is huge because at a very early age kids learn how to become responsible for their own belongings. “Many children get their first experience with responsibility by caring for a pet” (Mullin). And what responsibility does a child learn if the robotic pet just needs to be recharged once in a while? When a child has a real pet, she will show affection and compassion to the pet, and the pet to the child. Many might say that having a dog comes with a lot of risks and precautions. For example, “Biological pets have real needs, the neglect of which holds very real consequences” (Mullin). Yes, there are consequences, but that's the whole point of responsibility and growing up. The child is supposed to learn from her mistakes. Therefore, having a biological pet will teach the child responsibility.

Real biological pets on the other hand, from the second you adopt or buy them, they truly love you. “Would you still feel pride, knowing in the back of your mind that that aloofness was coded into the pet by some computer programmer?” (Mullin). The robot pet will never have any emotion towards the owner. But people say that some pets are vicious and don't like the owner. Yes, but the robot pets have an angry emotion too, they are not all happy all the time. Therefore, having a biological pet really love you is better than having a robot pet programed to love
