a. I think that Muniz feels that the function of art is to change the lives of people, and to help them see the life and beauty that is already inside of them. Vik Muniz does this through the project of going to the landfill in Brazil and working with people there. He changes their lives especially by helping them to see the potential that they have themselves for something greater to be apart of something bigger than us all.

Do you think that culture influences art, or does art influence culture?
a. I think that culture and art work hand in hand harmoniously together. This is because culture is what surrounds the artists that create the art of what is around them. But the art that is created then serves to influence culture and to bring another fresh perspective on the world that is being lived it. We saw this in the documentary when the pickers saw the art that they had created of themselves and it changed their view on life and what their purpose in life might be.
