Munguia and Tenayuca are similar in the sense that they were both looking for better equality for their people. Living in a nation where it is mostly anglo and English speaking people, it was very hard for Mexican Americans to receive any form if equality. These women stood out because they believed they deserved justice. However, both woman went about it in two totally different ways.     Anzaldua identifies how La Virgen de Guadalupe has had her impact in history. In Mexican history, she is said to have helped with the freedom of Mexico from Spain. In Roman history, she was named “Mother of God”. She was an enduring figure to the Indians during times of mass suffering and “near genocide”.
