For 2014, 335 changes are occurring, many across endoscopy codes. The Endoscopy section has undergone substantial changes, with codes divided into three subsections: Esophagoscopy (43191-43233), Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) (43235-43259), and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)…
The gallbladder is a hollow structure located under the liver and on the right side of the abdomen. Its main function is to store and distillate bile, a yellow-brown digestive enzyme produced by the liver. The gallbladder is part of the biliary tract. The gallbladder serves as a basin for bile while it’s not being used for…

Along with investigating a patient’s symptoms the procedure it used to identify ulcers, cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), inflammation or swelling, anemia and through biopsy samples, diagnose cancer, celiac disease, and gastritis. In some instances, the procedure will be used to treat bleeding ulcers with an electrical probe which will stop the bleeding, dilate strictures with a small balloon passed through the endoscope, and remove objects or food that maybe stuck in the upper gastrointestinal tract. The overall objective for the gastrointestinal endoscopy is so that the doctor can look at the lining of the patient’s esophagus, stomach, and duodenum for normal or abnormal findings. In order to perform an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy an endoscope will be used. An endoscope is a long flexible tube with a light and camera at the end of it, which sends visual feed back to a monitor. In order to obtain biopsy samples or stop bleeding, tiny tools are passed through the endoscope. Before the endoscope is inserted into the patient’s esophagus, they will be instructed to gargle a liquid anesthetic to suppress their gag reflex. Through out this procedure, the patient will be intravenously sedated while their vitals are being monitored. The patient is normally awake during the procedure but they can also sleep through it if they wanted…
2. Describe the functional anatomy of the duct system that conveys bile from the liver and digestive juice from the pancreas to the lumen of the duodenum. - When the liver cells secrete bile, it is collected by a system of ducts that flow from the liver through the right and left hepatic ducts. These ducts ultimately drain into the common hepatic duct. The common hepatic duct then joins with the cystic duct from the gallbladder to form the common bile duct, which runs from the liver to the duodenum (the first section of the small intestine). Then, when food is eaten, the gallbladder contracts and releases stored bile into the duodenum to help break down the fats. The enzymes secreted by the exocrine gland in the pancreas help break down carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and acids in the duodenum. These enzymes travel down the pancreatic duct into the bile duct in an inactive form. When they enter the duodenum, they are activated. The exocrine tissue also secretes a bicarbonate to neutralize stomach acid in the duodenum…
While going through the stages, what is failed to be mentioned in the travel of the food is the gall bladder, liver, and pancreas. The gall bladder basically acts a storage facility for bile, which is produced by the liver (Inner body, 2013). The role that the pancreas plays in this is storing the bile after it goes through the gall bladder. It is stored in an area called the duodenum (Johns Hopkins, 2012).…
The Phase 2 is all about cleansing your kidneys, gallbladder and pancreas. As you know, the small bean-shaped organs on each side of your lower back have multiple uses. It is because of the kidneys that we enjoy normal sodium levels and safe blood pressure ranges. As well, the kidneys control the electrolytes in our blood and promote blood and bone formation via hormones. Above all, these organs filter and remove toxins via the bladder.…

The cons of waiting before surgically removing Mrs. D’ Angelo’s gallbladder include the associated risks of developing an infection and continuing to feel pain. People with gallstones experience painful symptoms such as severe pain, fever, blockages of the bowel, or blood poisoning (Brisbane Liver & Gallbladder Surgery, 2012). As the pain continues, Mrs. D’ Angelo will continue suffering discomfort and most likely continue requiring pain medication. In severe cases, gallstones can cause life-threatening inflammation of the pancreas or jaundice (Brisbane Liver & Gallbladder Surgery, 2012). If Mrs. D’ Angelo has to continue waiting for surgery, she may also complicate the procedure when she does have it by allowing more time for the stones…
