compare and contrast two different writing styles
Journal Four For Journal Four I am going to use Katherine O. Seelye’s lurid Numbers on Glossy Pages! (Magazines exploit what sells) and Peter Stiglin’s Seeing as believing: The Paintings of Judith Belzer. I am going to compare and contrast the views and writing styles of these two readings. Katharine talks about the celebrity magazines and other magazines read by the younger generations. Her article involves the influence of these magazines on ordinary people. She talks about how the editors are in constant search for some new gossip and other stories related to celebrities or something which might be interesting for the reader. She also used quotes by different people in her article. Peter Stiglin on the other hand talks about paintings. He talks more philosophically. He started his essay with a quote by John Berger, “We only see what we look at. To look is an act of choice.” He did not use any quotes, he rather explained and described the beauty of the painting. Both the articles talk about our interest. Katherine talks about the glamour and hype the ordinary people are interested in; and Peter talks about the beauty and the story behind the painting in which a common person would be interested in. The style of writing is different in both the articles. Katherine uses interviews of different people and explains their thoughts, Peter talks about his opinion and the way he looks at the painting. At the end both the articles are interesting to read, depending on the information the reader is looking for.

To start, it is necessary to define art and work of art. The art could be defined as products of human creativity, works of art collectively or creation of beautiful or significant things (esthetes). While work of art or artwork are photographs or other visual representation in printed publications or painted boards. Poetry, drama and short story are literary forms that provide readers with entertainment, insight, pleasure, escape and sometimes information. Readers can find satisfaction in any of the three genres because the styles, variations, language and themes cater to everyone’s preference: tragedy, comedy, profanity or just for pleasure. There is a piece of literary work to suit every taste. Poetry, when performed live, gives the words rhythm, music and life. John Updike in his poem Dog’s Death in lines one to sixteen, the rhythm and pattern are not as distinct as in lines seventeen to twenty; where the beats are strong and there is a certain level of intensity leading up to the finale…”Good Dog.” “Back home, we found that in the night her frame, Drawing near to dissolution, had endured the shame Of diarrhea and had dragged across the floor To a newspaper carelessly left there. Good dog.” (Clugston, 2010) Usually one performer presents a poem to the audience whereas in drama there are many actors, stage settings and music that combine to create a complete stage production.…

When death affects us personally, our grief seems overwhelming and irremediable. But when it affects others, we tend to distance ourselves from it. My Writing Style Analysis

The Nature of a person's writing style can sometimes show more about an individual then the words they actually write, the poetic twists in sentence flow or the professional structure of their grammar. Writing styles are as unique as fingerprints and to define them can be as arduous as mastering the skills required to properly form one. In the quest to define my own style I discovered a detail that I have determined encapsulates the style with which I write; I write with passion. When I say I am a passionate writer I don't mean that I love to write but more that my level of personal affection toward the subject I am writing on directly affects the emotional nature I write in. In other words, I write more expressively and artistically the…
