harvested from the forest. Eastman Chemical converts numerous natural resources into synthetic chemicals, which are used by other companies such as Domtar Paper. Hence the materials produced by Domtar allow some environmental costs to be carried externally by Eastman Chemical. These processes are there to feed our needs and wants. So, in effect, we are the true source of the problem.
There are many ways to address and attempt to correct these problems. The first order of business is to evaluate our needs and wants. When we make educated choices, we force companies such as these to adapt their operating principles to serve our ethical positions and they respond (Contributor, 2015). Eastman Chemical, for example, is rapidly working on converting from dirtier coal power production to Natural Gas, which can be burned more efficiently. The use of Natural Gas releases fewer contaminants into the atmosphere, but still contributes to Global Warming. We need to force these companies into further methods to reduce their contributions. These methods include better CO2 scrubbers designed to reduce the amount released (Horton, 2008), switching to more sustainable biologically derived inputs, and creating more biologically neutral products.
