Comparing Chrysanthemum Ti's Poem The Sun And Moon

The poem “The Sun and Moon” by Chrysanthemum Ti is about the author always being second to her brother. Even when she does something amazing it is overlooked because her brother has done it first. Ti uses imagery, hyperbole, and repetition to convey to us readers that when people put too much pressure on themselves to be like others they won’t be able to achieve it. The theme of the poem is when people put too much pressure on themselves to be like others they won’t be able to achieve it

Ti uses imagery to show to show to us through our senses how she feel like her achievements are overlooked. In the 5th line Ti states, “I’m forever stuck being in your shadow, a mere shell of your ever-growing potential.” This line shows how she's always over looked because she's stuck in his shadow. While his potential is growing at what seems like 100mph the authors is growing at about 10mph, making her fall further and further behind him. This relates to the theme by showing how much Ti wants to be like her brother but can't because he is just so far ahead of her to the point where he is not achievable.
In lines 9 and 10 Ti exaggerates, “...you are unreachable, hundreds and thousands of miles away from my reach, planets, maybe even galaxies away.” This represents how far away her brother is from being obtainable by her. This relates to the theme because her brother is so close to the idea of perfection and the author Ti isn’t . Therefor when she talks about her brother being hundreds and thousands of miles away from her brother she means that she is hundreds and thousands of miles away from the idea of
