Oftentimes individuals view communism and fascism as drastically different. However, the two political ideologies are quite similar when compared. In both of these political systems, there is one group or individual who controls a nation. Communism is a far-left form of government. Individuals do not own land, factories, or property. The government possesses all property and it is shared by the public. Wealth is shared, and everyone is viewed as equal to one another. With communism, the collective good is viewed with greater importance than the individual good. The two political parties, the Democratic party and the Republican party, alternate being in power from term to term. Having a government allows for specific regulations to be placed on businesses to ensure citizens are not exploited. However, there is limited government involvement in everything else. The market works with supply and demand, and often fixes itself when issues arise. This economic system follows Adam Smith’s theory of the “Invisible Hand”. Individuals do what benefits them and many work for themselves. In return, they do provide jobs for others, but are often exploited by low wages and unfair working conditions. Many citizens enjoy the freedom of being who they want to be and having the career they wish to have. Individualism provides immense opportunities for individuals and allows for advancement in a variety of fields. The government of the United States prides itself on allowing individuals freedom, but provides little help for those in poverty. Due to big corporations driving the economy and society, there are little taxes in place for public services. Many businesses are greedy and keep the money they make for themselves, rather than giving back to the community and allowing for others to grow as well. This intensifies the wealth gap between the rich and the poor. The United States has one of the largest economies in the world. However, they also have a high percentage of individuals in poverty and struggling with homelessness. There are definitely individuals who thrive in a nation such as the United States, but there are also a great number of people who struggle with having their basic needs met on a daily basis.
