Comparing Shakespeare's Hamlet And Julius Caesar
William Shakespeare was born April 23, 1564, in Stratford-on-Avon. Shakespeare’s mother's name was Mary Arden. She came from a very wealthy family. Shakespeare went to Stratford Grammar School where he got all his formal education. At age seven, Shakespeare studied classics in Greek and Latin. “From 1594-1608 Shakespeare worked for the London Theatre World”. “Some plays he wrote were Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Richard the Third, and Romeo and Juliet”. “These plays were all tragedies.” (Meghan and Angela, William Shakespeare) The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is one of Shakespeare’s most enduring plays. Shakespeare had great influence on culture throughout the world. “Not only did he have the guts to step up to the senators of the Roman Empire and …show more content…
Some may also say the characters between the two plays are also similar. Since the two plays came out so close in year (Julius Caesar 1599, and Hamlet 1602) is probably why they’re so tied into each other. For example Brutus and Hamlet. Brutus is a very complex character. Brutus faces many difficult conflicts by trying to stay loyal to his friend Julius Caesar, as well as stay loyal to his country. “Brutus kills Caesar, dealing the decisive blow during the historically based account of senators murdering the Roman leader”. “Caesar was a father figure to Brutus in the play, and in real life.” (Stocker, “Brutus and Hamlet”). Hamlet on the other hand he is loyal to his dead father with appears to him in a ghost form, and also wants to keep his parents legacy. “Hamlet kills the tyrant Claudius, who unlike Caesar is only a tyrant in the sense that he may have come to his position unjustly, not that he has created a new power in the state which undermines previous limitations on the powers of one man.” (Stocker, “Brutus and Hamlet”). Both Brutus and Hamlet are one in the same both trying to stay loyal to something or someone but also faces conflicts along the way. They both killed someone who was a father figure in their

There is little documentation on Shakespeare’s life, therefore his birthdate is unknown; however, Shakespeare was baptized April 26th, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Shakespeare’s father was a public official and could not afford higher education. Researchers assume that he attended King’s New School in Stratford where he learned reading and writing. Although he received some education, the stories that are said to have been written by him contain “elaborate metaphors and rhetorical phrases”, things that are widely considered too complex for a writer with so little education. There are many historians, writers, and researchers that argue whether or not Shakespeare was actually Shakespeare. Shakespeare’s (if infact he did write the widely accredited works) most known stories, plays, sonnets, and poems include: Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and Othello. Although it is possible he may have written the stories, the evidence is not in his…

Written by Shakespeare more than one thousand five hundred years after Julius Caesar’s death, Julius Caesar, Shakespeare’s well-known tragedy, is unique in that it contains two tragic characters, the senator Brutus and emperor Caesar. A play in five acts, Julius Caesar attempts to portray the assassination of Caesar, at that time victorious over Pompey’s sons, and the civil war that follows, culminating in the establishment of the Second Triumvirate. Although Caesar meets his end comparatively early in the third act, both Brutus and Caesar are adequately portrayed as men of high repute who, through flawed actions and decisions, meet an untimely end. In short, both are tragic heroes.…

When reading the works of two great writers, a person can find many similarities between them. The underlying themes of Shakespeare 's Hamlet and Sophocles Oedipus King excite the reader yet leave us with the desire of wanting more. There are significant similarities between Oedipus King and Hamlet, especially when it relates to the theme of the tormented king, incest, and Shakespeare 's and Sophocles metaphorical references to vision and hearing. Sophocles Oedipus King and Shakespeare 's Hamlet both contain the basic elements of tragedy, although the Shakespearean tragedy expanded its setting far beyond that of the ancient Greek tragedy.…

Considering Shakespeare is such a famous figure, it is remarkable how little we actually know about his life. In fact, some critics have suggested that this is one reason for his continuing success or for the ‘cult’ of ‘The Bard’: if the man himself is a myth then he can be permanently recreated for many generations. However there are some details that we can identify with relative confidence. Shakespeare was born in 1564, probably on April 23rd as he was baptised on the 26th. He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in the county of Warwickshire where his father was a glover and alderman. He received a good education at the local grammar school, the Kings New School, where boys were taught Latin grammar and classical texts (he later used Latin sources for the plots of some of his plays, for example Titus Andronicus refers to Ovid’s tales Metamorphoses).…
