On the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida, I feel as though most of the information is relatively logical. For example, in section 1.b. it states, the professional concern should
be for the student and for the student’s potential. In addition, the education should provide a safe environment that will not be harmful to learning either mentally or physically. Although several of the guidelines seem evident, there are several that one would not consider. For instance, in section c.3, it states that one should not make false or spiteful claims about another coworker. Now, one should not do this in general, but I found it surprising that it was stated; however, I can understand why it is needed. The reason is if an educator speaks negatively about another educator and a student overhear or another teacher then it will affect their opinion on them. Another example that I found surprising is in section c.4., which states that one should not interfere with another coworker’s viewpoint of politics, civil rights, and responsibilities. However, this is most likely similar to not forcing one’s beliefs or viewpoints onto another individual. I believe that it is important to have all these rules written out even if some of the rules may be obvious because what may seem obvious to me may not be to someone else.
The NEA Codes of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession are very similar and had many of the same guidelines. For example, the educator should not hinder the student’s learning. The educator should not discriminate against race, sex, political or religious beliefs and more. Another instance, would be one should not accept any gift that would not influence their professional decisions. A surprising fact would be that one should not assist noneducators in teaching. In the National Education Association Code of Ethics, there was only one surprising detail. I liked the Code of Ethics better than the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession because I found it easier to read.
The Florida Depart of Education (FLDOE) actually provides much useful information for educators. It gives educators the ability to join a community of teachers which gives them updates about conferences and workshops. It also allows for teachers to receive recognition as well as view other outstanding teachers. The FLDOE gives a guideline for teaching and information in Florida. Lastly, it discusses the professional practices of teachers in Florida. I believe this is a useful source for all educators.
In conclusion, the FLDOE, NEA Codes of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession provides a lot of useful information. I believe it is important for every educator to read and follow the NEA Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession. Although mainly of the guideline may seem obvious, it is important to read everything because there may be some surprises. For example, if an educator were constantly to post hateful things on social media about another educator and a parent or student were to see that then it would affect the way they see that educates as well as how they see the spiteful educator. Therefore, educators need to be aware of the guideline as well as follow them all the times. On the bright side, there are not any rules or guidelines stating that an educator could not marry, have children, or dye their hair in the FLDOE, NEA Codes of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession
