Each sign also comes with a set of characterists that are supposed to make up components of the person’s personality.
Cancer’s are known to be emotional and sensitive while Scorpio’s are dominant and secretive. Different signs come with a seperate set of personality traits.
The concept of Zodiac astrology originated in the Babylonian time period and was heavily influenced by Babylonian astrology. It is the circle of twelve divisions of celestial longitude that revolves around the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. The name, ‘Zodiac’ derives from the Greek word ‘zodiakos kyklos’ which translates to ‘Circle of Animals.’ Mainly because it is influenced by the fact that half of the signs are influenced by animals of the Greek Zodiac.
According to the Zodiac calendar, there are four elements that are identified: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. Each element is associated with three Zodiac signs. Signs ruled by Fire elements are hard-headed and impulsive, Air is wise, Earth are pratical and sensible, and Water signs are emotional and
sensitive.
Unfortunately, because of the Zodiac has failed predictions in scientific testing, it is listed as ‘pseudoscientific’ and should not be taken word for word.
The Chinese calendar on the other hand divides astrological signs by years. The Chinese believe those that are born in the same year share similar traits. They also govern different animals representing the years and the personality traits included: Year of the Rat, Ox, Goat, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.
The twelve Zodiac signs in the Chinese calendar derive mainly from mythology. According to the legend, when God was forming the calendar, he summonded all creatures on Earth to participate in a race. The first twelve animals to cross the finish line were awarded signs of the Chinese Zodiac. The Rat won first place due to cunningness while the Pig came in last because it was distracted.
