Fascist, are followers of fascism, which is a political system in which the government administers all aspects of the economy while maintaining political control and restricting any form of opposition (Blamires 2006). Nazis on the other hand, are followers of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, which governed Germany from 1935 to 1945 in an authoritative manner (Evans & Reid 2013). Based on these definitions, Nazis are part of the wider fascist ideology because they apply fascist ideologies to administer. The Nazi government, which was in control of the mass media, used propaganda to smear opponents while popularising its agenda. In 1929, Adolf Hitler appointed Josef Goebbels to handle matters to do with propaganda, which he did successfully through though-out campaigns and simple slogans and images that were repeated regularly to gain public support (Heberer 2011). The content of the propaganda is known for its radical anti-semitism and bewilderment of Hitler as a ruthless and authoritarian ruler (2011). Chile’s military rule under Gen. Augusto Ugarte Pinochet used propaganda to rule the country for 17 years beginning from 1973 to 1990 (Bizzarro 2005). Pinochet was a true fascist who was influenced by Benito Mussolini (Italy) and Francisco Franco (Spain). He used propaganda and military plots to gain support and this led to animosity between Allende’s supports and his supporters. Ultimately, thousands of Allende’s supporters were killed and Pinochet continued with his dictatorship ways.
