What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a therapy that is offer to service users who are taking medication to help treat their disorder. Complementary therapies do not help to cure an individual of the disease they are suffering from; they are used to help the service user to feel comfortable and better in themselves while receiving medical treatment.
How is acupuncture performed?
According to the NHS website acupuncture is performed by a practitioner called acupuncturist. The professional will insert many fine needles into the service user’s skin for therapeutic purposes. The same website states that acupuncture originated from ancient Chinese medicine. It also states that the purpose of acupuncture is to help the body to produce and release endorphins. Endorphins are pain relieving substances. If an individual is experience a lot of pain they might request to have acupuncture to see if it helps to relieve their pain.
What is acupuncture used to treat?
The NHS website states that acupuncture is used to treat many pain conditions including, headaches, migraines, lower back pain and painful joints also known as osteoarthritis. The acupuncturists will insert many fine needles into the service user’s lower neck, just below the back of the head. The needles are then used to stimulate the nerves under the individual’s skin and muscle tissue. The fine needles will help to relax the muscle tissue, if an individual’s muscle tissue is tensed and tight
