However, in some situations, alliance could be influenced by some factors that may lead to failure. I always like to show up the highly respect, empathy, and genuineness to my alliance with my patients, but some situations may push me to interact differently. Patient incompliance to treatment, patient with poor objectives, time and appointment non obligation, patient’ negative motivation, patient’s negative perception to this relation, and etc. are some factors can affect my interaction toward the existed alliance with these patients. In addition, the patient avoidance, hopelessness, defensiveness, perfectionistic attitudes, and negative introject are characteristics could affect the therapeutic alliance negatively (Constantino, Castonguay, & Schutt, 2002). Patient interpersonal characteristics as his/her attachment style are associated to the therapeutic alliance quality. Those who have secure attachment style are more likely to have favorable therapeutic relationship, meanwhile, those with anxious, fearful, or dismissive attachment style have difficulty in establishing or even maintaining the good alliance (Eames & Roth, 2000).
