Why did you choose to be a doctor?
Dr. James chose a career in medicine because he wanted to help ailing people. He grew up in a village where access to medical care was a complicated process. He decided that he would work hard in school to help the sick. He furthered his studies and specialized in surgery after finishing medical school because he liked operating on patients and learning surgical skills was easy for him.

James reported that he goes through patient’s medical history and fully examines a patient to know the best surgical procedure to be performed every day. He also prescribes treatments before and after an operation and coordinates activities of the other medical staff. Before carrying out an operation, he examines the patient to check on the risks associated with a certain surgical procedure. It is his daily duty to operate on a patient so as to repair injuries, correct deformities or restore normal body functioning.
What challenges do you face as a surgeon?
According to Dr. James, doctors experience a lot of problems in their daily activities. Organizational issues and low workforce are the biggest challenges. Diversities in surgical procedure outcome are other challenges he experiences in the hospital. He performs operations throughout a day because of the low workforce. Continuous advancement in health care also poses a problem since one has to learn new skills continually.
