The Importance Of Paging Dr. Baez To The ER
“Paging Dr. Baez to the ER”, it’s like music to my ears. I've always been attracted to the function of the human body. Science has been my strongest subject but Biology is by far my favorite. I knew right away that I would never be bored and just like that it came so easy to me. I have so much confidence that I can make a great general surgeon, in the sense of being good at following instructions and taking care of people, I'm a hands-on kind of person and having to clean up vomit from the floor when my sister has her famous asthma attacks has helped me get over being squeamish. What other career would be my kind if not surgery. Not only that but after my brothers incident, all i was able to think about was how much i wanted to help him and

I can still vividly recall the eleven-year-old me fawning over the likes of Lawrence Krauss and Neil Degrasse Tyson. I was completely immersed in everything and anything pertaining to the vast universe beyond our seemingly insignificant world. I thought I had it all figured out. I would devote my life to being an astrophysicist and eventually earn my PhD. I would relish in the pink lettering on my wall that said “Dr. Mia”, but as I approach my late teens, my mind has been bombarded with what-ifs and buts. Irrespective of my change of heart, I still have an intense passion for math and science since it is how we explain the world around us, and that is why I have settled on biomedical engineering.…

I soared past elementary, middle, and high school in the hopes of becoming a professional in the healthcare industry, and what were once dreams is now becoming a reality. My general education classes at UCSD have trickled down to more specialized courses particular to my major, human biology. I have always appreciated the vastness of the human body and the many ways it can manipulate treatments to increase its performance and efficiency. Applied Medical is an advanced technological medical company that uses the skills of people with a wide range of backgrounds, such as engineering, clinical research, multimedia design, finance, and more, to create progressive minimally invasive and general surgical instruments. I am interested in pursing the major I chose above because I have developed a passion for medicine through my own health obstacles. I suffer from Chronic Migraines, which has caused me to spend a great deal of my life in doctor's offices. Positive experiences with my doctors lead to me idolizing them as a young child; so much so that I memorized the every bone in the body at the age of five. This passion stayed alive and well as I grew older, however my admiration began to transition from the doctors themselves to the subject. This all stemmed from my own health; I wanted to know exactly what was happening with my body and why. Now, I want to dedicate my life to the subject and possibly be the doctor that inspires someone to discover their…

Growing up, seeing my mother and godmother aspiring to become medical assistants began to enhance my interest in the medical field. Skimming through their textbooks intrigued me on how the human body is extremely complex yet I found it to be so captivating. As time progressed, I became even more intrigued in pursuing a career in the medical field. Thus, when I was accepted to Hillcrest High School’s Pre-Med Program I was elated to see that I was now one step closer. Taking rigorous science courses such as Anatomy, Med-Lab and Microbiology, heightened my enthusiasm as I had finally begun to prepare for my future endeavours. Conducting experiments such as pig dissections, growing bacteria on a petri dish and others intoxicated me with excitement for…

I was raised with almost everyone in my family working in the medical field. We have marine Doctors, nurses of all sorts, therapists, and even behind the scene medical family members working in jobs like medical billing and coding. Growing up and hearing stories at family gatherings of their experiences, always left me on the edge of my chair. I would not go play barbies with my cousins or basketball with the uncles I was the kid eavesdropping in on the adult conversations. I wanted to know more but most of all I was intrigued.…

Ever since I was a little girl, I have had the dream of working in the medical field. I have always fanaticized the idea of helping others get better from their injuries or sicknesses, and through my education I have realized that I would do better as a therapist of some sort rather than a medical doctor. As a therapist, they tend to help patients get better after their injury, so they hopefully see them progressively get healthier. As a doctor, it can be the other way around. I quickly realized that I needed to be on the somewhat happier side of healthcare, because I do not think I would be able to handle the emotional stress of helping people when they are at their absolute worst.…

I like to think of people in the medical field as everyday heroes, I’ve always admired them, I enjoy the idea helping those in need, whether it is a major-medical procedure or a simple laugh. As I’ve gotten older I started to take in to consideration that maybe this was what I would like to do for the rest of my life just like all people I saw and I admired when I was younger. Now that I am in the 11th grade, college is soon approaching and I found myself confused as to how I plan on getting to my goal, I knew the college I wanted to attend and what profession I wanted to pursue, but how was I going to get there? I don’t want a job that I go to for a paycheck, but a job that I would do for free because I love doing it. I want to have a career of helping people. At this time in my life I believe I want to become a surgeon. I am not sure at this point and time of what kind of surgeon, but I want to be in the operating room. As a high school senior I was able to do a clinical internship at the hospital for a semester and also do an internship at a surgery clinic for the second semester. While at both places I was able to help and observe in the operating room. I loved every second of it. I was able to see how it affected Dr. Dolan and Dr. Bakeer, to help people. I saw a that there is a true reward of saving someone’s life, fixing the problem that caused pain, or even taking a simple mole off to make it so they was more comfortable with their skin. Being able to talk to the patients and hearing them say how appreciative he or she was for the surgeon, and his ability do what he did, makes me want to become a surgeon. Also, the feeling the doctors described to me after hearing a patient thank them, would be worth more to me than the…
