My education must pave the way for anything else I do. But an education in medicine is not easy. We are constantly being flooded with information and everyday this progresses more. Through widespread study and practice I want to become a surgical physician’s assistant, who always takes a clear medical history, performs a complete physical exam, perform minor surgeries, order and interpret diagnostic tests, etc. so as completely diagnose my patients. This is my main professional goal.
As I further experience the profession of surgical physician’s assistant, I hope to have involvement in improving every day procedures, including how minor surgeries are performed and diagnosing and treating new diseases.
While growing up my family always talked about ideas and compared opinions, thus I learned to think for myself. Also, I am analytical, I am able to identify weaknesses and take the initiative to improve them. While playing softball through my high school years, I deeply relied on these traits. I took on the role leader of the team was able to initiate changes that motivated the team improved the team’s success. These changes laid the groundwork of initiative that I can build on as a surgical physician’s assistant. I want to add my viewpoint to decisions and represent what is right for my
profession.
The most important part of a surgical physician’s assistant is to assist the physician in the complete management of patient care in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative settings. I strongly believe that an crucial part of that care is education. More knowledge transforms into better opportunities and leads to greater control over one’s circumstances. In healthcare, meaningful patient education can do the same. I saw this while shadowing my cousin. She taught her patients in a friendly, clear, and efficient manner. Her example motivated me to set goals to listen and communicate clearly with my patients. As a surgical physician’s assistant, I hope to sharpen these skills and consequently empower my patients to have control of their health.
I believe surgical physician’s assistant is an excellent specialty. I am excited to learn more about this vocation. I want to find an internship that offers the opportunity to (train) in a well-structured environment with physicians who love to teach.
