The audience of the musical consisted of us classmates in Music 101 and other music classes, faculty, friends and family of the performers, and also theatre fanatics who enjoy musicals or more…
4. The tenor section singing a chorale melody accompanied by a pipe organ 5. One singer singing a virtuoso passage accompanied by strings. Score: 1.92/1.92 9.…
As the voices of this amazingly blended SAB choir rang out a melody of beauty and sweet serenity. The work they had all put in was defiantly present. I was impressed at the pureness and the strength of the choir. They started with an old syncopated composition called “American folk Rhapsody”. The secular piece had an upbeat rhythm and was voiced with SAB parts accompanied by a piano. Written in the key of F the composition was sung and played in a major mode. On this piece the choir blended very nicely except for a few spots here and there. Overall the ensemble seemed to really enjoy singing this music.…
On Saturday, February 27, I attended a concert choir that was presented by the Department of Music and College of Liberal Arts; the title of the program was From Darkness to Light. There were eight songs that were performed by the choir, all of which were accompanied by a piano. The first song was Sure on this Shining Night by Samuel Barber, which possessed a medium-paced tempo. Throughout the song, there was an equal distribution between the male and female voices. The change in dynamics was very clear to the audience. As the dynamics gradually grew louder, the males and females sang in synchronization. The second song was If ye love me by Thomas Tallis; the song had a medium-paced tempo, but there were a few moments in which the choir would speed up and slow down. The soprano members of the choir were able to hit very high notes throughout the song.…
I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…
Then the second part of the concert is Cantabile Choristers Choir. There are fewer members perform on the stage, just some kids sing on the stage, and the rest sit on the floor. They have performed in a perfect way as well. All the audiences are really attracted. Their perform style must be fascination. They perform in the style of professional. All the audiences think very highly of them.…
On Tuesday, December 8th, the Allen High School Philharmonia and Sinfonietta orchestras performed a variety of fascinating pieces. The orchestras began the concert with “Holiday Dances by Mark Williams". The next piece that the orchestras performed was “Saint Nick’s Canon on the Housetop” arranged by Carrie Lane Gruselle. The last piece that the AHS Philharmonia and Sinfonietta orchestras performed was “We Wish you a Merry Christmas” arranged by Lloyd Conley.…
This research by C.J. Pascoe was about the use of the word fag and its relationship to homophobia and masculinity in a high school. The term fag is used loosely throughout most high schools. The reading explains that it is used in many ways. For example, fag can be used to describe a male who is doing something that is not masculine or that is feminine. In my words the article was explaining the how the word fag is used and the different meaning it may have depending on the context and even the race of who is using the word.…
“When I first started here back in 2000, I was the only female conductor in the Suburban East Conference” recalled Marie Dymit. When she was in high school her conductor, Lee Carlson, was a male teacher but she remembers him always pushing her to do what she wanted to do in life. He fueled her passion for choir with the passion he put into his choir groups. He was her role model in high school and even now because he is a big part of why she choose to be a choir…
Most things usually do not stand out to any ordinary person attending a choir performance, but a person who knows about music, they were astonished and a bit of a critic. “They were a bit of pitch sometimes. Treble Choir was a bit distracted. There was one girl at the edge that kept on moving and fiddling too much and kept me distracted. Concert choir was a bit too stiff as for their performance, but other than that, they were pretty good. Vocal Ensemble was an overall amazing performance. I’m very proud of my wife, Suzanne” Jeff Brookey. As for I, it was an amazing performance. This performance was a free show and I recommend for people from the community to come and support their students talents.…
Each choir was singing a different piece by John Rutter. In our choir there were about 8 different choirs that came together for this. The HCCYC was the only choir that included any middle schoolers, but since I skipped first grade, I was the only eleven-year-old on the stage throughout the entire performance. The concert started at eight-o'clock that night and we were the first act. We walk out of stage and everything hits us all at once. The entire venue is absolutely gorgeous, even more so when it is filled up with people. Everyone gets into their places, and Mr. Rutter had us pull out our music, and he started the orchestra. The entire room filled with the gorgeous sounds of the brass, woodwind, strings, and the heavy pounding of the percussion. We start to sing this glorious piece, and that feeling right then is one I will never forget. We all became so overwhelmed with the beauty of the music and it was simply a night to remember. This was the largest, most intense concert I have ever performed in. I got to have such an amazing experience on stage with such an amazing group of people in such a legendary venue, and it has given a whole different perspective on what making music really…
When the second week of February arrived, Kayla and I left Sioux Falls around six in the morning. Arriving in Brookings a hour later, we were driven to the campus and taken to a building with a large gathering room that held other schools whom had already arrived before us. We were assigned seats in specific sections—ranging from Bass, Tenor, Alto, or Soprano. Hours of practicing went by, and we had reached the last few hours of the day. Driven to a performance hall; we ran through all the songs once more before the final…
Show Choir is an elective class that integrates choreography into the choral experience. A varied repertoire of 2 and 3 part music is memorized, choreographed and then performed in a concert setting. Vocal technique, developing the ensemble and dance are the main emphasis of this class. Various public performances are presented by this group.…
It seems that versatility was one of choir director Dr. Charles Clency’s focuses when he picked out the repertoire. The program of the event reads: “A Choral Tapestry. A blend of choral genres: mass, madrigal, oratorio, opera, musical theatre, pop, spirituals, gospel…” and the list goes on. There was versatility even within the choirs themselves. For instance, the first six songs were sung by the Choir of Lake County, but the first four pieces were sung in Latin, French, Russian, and Italian, with mezzo soprano Sheila Bondurant singing Carmen’s solo in Habanera, while the last two were excerpts from the musicals The Phantom of the Opera and Oklahoma. This is quite the contrast. I’ll admit, at first the concert was slow. This could be because of my own preconceived notions on how the concert was going to play out, or it could have been that my preconceived notions were true. The following group caught my attention a little bit better, which was the all-women’s choir who sang a dreamy French piece called Clair de Lune, which translates to “moonlight” in English. Notions of leaving pervaded my thoughts up until the Chamber Singers…
Sac State’s Ensemeble performed three songs these were: Summertime by George Gershwin with an arrangement by Carlos McCoy, Songomania by Rebeca Mauleon, and Rumba Urbana by Oscar Hernandez. Sac States ensemble had a much smaller group of individuals performing but the performance they gave didn’t lack in any way. Throughout the performance I noticed there was a lot of trumpet, and the piano was a lot faster in the song Summertime. It reminded me of salsa music, something you could dance to with a fast beat. In Songomania there was a lot of Piano, and Drums I loved when they performed this song because most of the instrument players got independent solos to show off their talents. Overall Sac States performance…
