In the small city of Baldwin Park, CA, The Performing Arts Center, best known as The PAC Center by fellow citizens, was hosting Sierra Vista High School Harmony, which features the Vocal Ensemble, Concert Choir, and Treble Choir groups. Suzanne Brookey was the choir director and Wendi Turk was the piano accompanist. The performance started at 7:00 pm sharp, free admission, which means anyone can come and support this lovely choir group perform. Each choir group has their own pieces of work of music by different composers and each group performs it at separate times. First came treble choir, then two solos performed by Florence Gong who perform a song called Quella Fiamma and then it was Diego Ayala who performed Per La Gloria. After the two soloist, then came Concert Choir and then two more soloist by the name of Joyce Ayala who also sang Per La Gloria, and Brandon Villa who then also sang Quella Fiamma. Last but not least, came the Vocal Ensemble group.
Most things usually do not stand out to any ordinary person attending a choir performance, but a person who knows about music, they were astonished and a bit of a critic. “They were a bit of pitch sometimes. Treble Choir was a bit distracted. There was one girl at the edge that kept on moving and fiddling too much and kept me distracted. Concert choir was a bit too stiff as for their performance, but other than that, they were pretty good. Vocal Ensemble was an overall amazing performance. I’m very proud of my wife, Suzanne” Jeff Brookey. As for I, it was an amazing performance. This performance was a free show and I recommend for people from the community to come and support their students talents.

Experiencing these 2 operas, I was able to comprehend the incredible talents of the Auburn University’s Department of Music Opera Workshop performers. The fourth through eighth grade choristers enter onto the risers on the stage in organized rows, hands at their sides, shoulders back and aligned with nervous smiles across their faces. This is the students first time being adjudicated The auditorium is full of other students, teachers, and adjudicators from around the city ready to hear the product of weekly after school rehearsals throughout the school year. The chorus director looks around the auditorium and counts five former music instructors and the nostalgia of being that fourth-eighth grader on stage with those instructors floods the director's mind. She smiles, bows to the audience, turns, and gives a reassuring thumbs up to the bright, developing musicians in front of her.…

On Friday, December 6th, I attended the Sac State Vocal Jazz Ensembles. The show began with special guests Christian Brothers Vocal Jazz. This young group of singers were extremely talented for their age. They held their harmonies and expressed their talents in each piece they performed. It was quite impressive and heartwarming because these students looked so into the music that it showed the passion they have for singing and vocal jazz. Following these talented young students, the Sac State Jazz Singers came on stage and did an excellent job at their pieces as well. I appreciated the song choices and arrangements for each piece. They definitely showed the hard work and practice they put into each piece and I overly enjoyed the show they put on. With all of the songs from both groups, dynamics, harmonies, unison, scatting, and different rhythms, especially in 4/4 time signature, were portrayed throughout.…

“When I first started here back in 2000, I was the only female conductor in the Suburban East Conference” recalled Marie Dymit. When she was in high school her conductor, Lee Carlson, was a male teacher but she remembers him always pushing her to do what she wanted to do in life. He fueled her passion for choir with the passion he put into his choir groups. He was her role model in high school and even now because he is a big part of why she choose to be a choir…

Almost every night the people whistle and chant to the music that is starting to play at the large arena. The initiation starts with a loud thundering drum. The trumpet joins with the core melody with the great high pitched voices. The projection and the distinctiveness of the Spanish voices make it unique. The first words are only to inject fun and dance. Once the singers step the first step to the dance, all the brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments whirl together. The sharp upbeats leap the body to move its joints. Both genres of music have two ways of sound: they delight the ear with tremendous rhythm, but as the night flows, their passive, sweet melodies join soul mates. The sounds that pass through Mexico makes us live so vividly and happy. Despite the sounds of the instruments, the auditory the lyrics make is special. Most lyrics are inspirational music. The voice unit the people through words, experiences, and advice. From lost wars in the past to independence, to rising and falling or even to love songs, it engages the public’s…
