Conflict In The Interlopers

In the story “The Interlopers” uses a lot of Literary terms and conferences such as point of view, irony, conflict, and symbolism. This story mostly talk’s about two men that absolutely hate each other fighting for land. One of the conflicts that this story has an external conflict which can deal with the characters thinking about themselves. Internal conflict deals with the characters thinking about others. I believe that the theme for this story is that to respect who you meet or try not to hate each other before it’s too late. Examples of external conflict in this story would have to be that both of theses characters have always wanted to kill each other ever since they’ve seen each other. For three generations this feud has been about this piece of land that these families have been fighting. Another example would have to be when they got stuck on the fallen branch, inside them, they still wanted to kill each other. No matter at this point when are both stuck on the fallen branch, they are still wanting to kill each other instead of helping each other. author's message
The irony is the opposite or unexpected, such as in this story, the two men hated each other for generations and were hurting each other for land. But then at the middle and the end of the story, when they were stuck on a fallen branch they soon they realized that they both need each others assistance in the end. Another element in this story is the tone/mood. The tone and mood in the beginning of this story would have to be hatred with both of the men, in the middle of the story would have to be apologetic and at the ending of the story would have to scare and defensive. One more element in this story would have to be the setting, which is a winter night, in the forest lands of Gradwitz.
